Daphnex Issues. Please Help.
« on: June 30, 2006, 01:19:00 PM »

I've been trying to play Cobra Command on DaphneX. I can't seem to get it to work or Bega's Battle . Both of which work on my PC. I keep getting an error saying it can't load a rom file when I try Cobra Command.

When I try Bega's Battle I get an error saying it couldn't load D:/bega.m2v which is the name of the video file. I see that it appears to be looking for the file on my D drive. I have it on the XBOX so I have no idea what's the problem.

Anyone able to help me with DaphneX?

I'm using DaphneX V0.96 Beta 06/14/03 if that helps.

I'm tired of pulling my hair out on this one.

I haven't tried cobra comand yet, but have gotten Bega's Battle to work.

The framefile should be named BEGA.TXT and should contain the following:

CODE

.\mpeg\bega

299     bega.m2v

That is, assuming that you've got bega.m2v as your video file.  If not, you may need to convert it to m2v.

PM me if you need more help-I can see if my CC is workable-I just haven't tried it yet.

Figured it out.  You need to also get the astron belt ROMs and place them in the astron directory.  Cobra command needs BOTH the astron and the cobra command ROM's.

I did get another problem.  The game played fine initialy but now freezes on loading while "saving soundtrack to RAM"  does anybody know how to solve this issue?

I'm going to try reinstalling CC tonight and see if that corrects the problem

Well Reinstalled and it worked the first time after parsing the disk etc.  PLayed a few games and then exited.  The next time I started same problem.  Initializes disk but then freezes on loading soundtrack to RAM

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

not that I know of.  There is a basic info file included in the archive.  Basically you need

1)  The ROM-- check out the pc site for more info on those.  They are very small (only a few KB)
2)  A rip of the laser disk which comes as a .m2v (video) and .ogg (sound)
3)  Once you get 1+2 you make a framefile which basically tells DAPHNE were to find the M2V file AND you need to tell it what frame to start on.  The framefile is a .txt file using the same name as the game (i.e Cobra command is cobra.txt.  Additionally the m2v goes in the COBRA MPEG folder and the ROM goes in the Cobra ROM folder

ex
.\mpeg\bega  (this is where the file is located)

299 (this is the starting frame)    bega.m2v (this is the name of the file)

once you have all that in place Daphne will parse out the video file and create a .DAT file which will be stored with your m2v and .ogg file

For the xbox version follow the file tree convention as described in the info file in the archive.  i.e put the m2v in and ROMS in the folder named after the game and the framefile in the framefile folder

I have gotten cliff hanger to work perfect using this method

is there nothing i can do to fix this?  is cobra command the only game in daphnex that doesn't work?  what about "thunder storm" which apparently was the japanese version of the same game? any luck to be had at all?

as far as I know this is a bug in DaphneX (there is a vague reference to it in one of the logs).  If you want to play Cobra command you can delete the .dat file.  When you start CC it will parse the video again and you can play ONE session (as many games as you want) fine.

The next time you try to load it it will freeze.  You can keep deleating the .dat files after each session but you will have to wait the 5-10 minutes it takes to parse the video every time you start up.

I don't know anything about the japanese version so i can't help you there.  If you figure a way to make it work let me know
