Multiversion Tsop Help
« on: June 05, 2003, 05:52:00 PM »

Guys I need some help, I think it's my linux command stuff. I manage to open the box jump the boards top and bottom, boot 007 and telnet to 192.168.0.64. I combined two 256k of 4976.02 red bios.I want to do the Grnd-->A19 <-- VCC setup. My wires are ready and backup my factory bios. I entered this commnad on telnet and this is the results:

# ./raincoat -a 40000 -p mybios.bin
raincoat Flasher  0.3  Feb 26 2003  [email protected]  http://xbox-linux.sf.net
Reading /etc/raincoat.conf... 6 flash types read

DETECTED: ST - M29F080A (1024K)
Programming with mybios.bin...Read 524288 bytes from file
Erasing...

I wired the grnd to A19 first to check if it boots up... RED flashes!!! I turned it off and switch to A19 to open (not connected to ground or VCC) and M$ boots up. What is my problem?

MS is supposed to boot up.  All you did is flash the BIOS, your dashboard is still intact.  By flashing the BIOS you make it possible to run unsigned code on the box.  Now all you need to do is get yourself a copy of Slayers 2.1 and install the Evox Dashboard on your system and you will be all set.

There are other places to work this out. I would've suggested using the original bios.bin that came with the 007auf zip file, then installed evox and used the function to flash the bios in evox.

Your bios should be like so,

Bank 1 = 4976
Bank 2 = 4976
Bank 3 = Original 4034 or whatever you had
Bank 4 = Original 4034 or whatever you had

When you do that sort of setup, you need to make sure that the switch is off before flashing. You'd then flick the switch on once flashing had completed and test it out...

As an extra note, I've heard of compatibility issues between the newer XII bioses... Try a different bios and see if that works.

be careful a multi version bios wont work on the tsop with a regular version bios
only the multi version will boot

ie Bank12: 4976.02
   Bank34: MS 4034

this wont work only the multi ver bios will boot
not sure why this happeneds but i can confirm it as i have tested it a long time ago

QUOTE
# ./raincoat -a 40000 -p mybios.bin

Why on earth did you use the command to flash the 2nd sector of the flash?
That's where all hell has let loose. Even though you used a 512 K file you have ONLY programmed the 2nd Sector of the flash, which is what -a 40000 command is for!

What I find noteworthy here is the fact that you are still able to boot normally with the A19 connection not held to VCC
It will not boot with the A19 ---> Ground because the lower half of the Flash is arranged thus : Original + X2_4976.02
Now, to recover from this you will need to install your switch, boot from the VCC---> A19 position, do the AUF trick again. BEFORE you do the actual ./raincoat -p command, switch to the GND---> A19 position of the Switch, so you are now swiched to the sectors that will not boot. Then flash with your 512K file to get them BOTH to be X2_4976.02 Bios.

And never use the -a command. You do the sector switching manually by controlling A18 and A19

Psi

what I normally do is on a pc create a 1 meg bios image like this
Hack + hack + original + original
I then flash this bios using raincoat.
if i turn on the xbox right now i'll get the red/green flashies but if I install a switch on A19 to switch between GND and VCC it will work every time for me
