Best Settings/emulator For Particular Games

From what I see, some emulators allow you to play with changeable settings. Some changes cause the emulator not to work and other allow it to go smoothly.

Post for a given game, what emulator worked best and at what setting.

On a side note, does Zelda O.T. / M.M. (N64) work smoothly on any emulator?
 If so, which emulator and at what setting?

BTW are emulators still being improved or is it all done for now (talking about emu for consoles such as N64)?
