Hopefully the sound will be a little better with this than with xSnes9x. The audio always sounded like a warped record to me. The pitch goes up and down, and the speed of it does as well.

I always thought xSnes9x was near perfect. The more the merrier though! Vairety never hurts, and this is an emu that has been requested time and time again.

Is it against hack0r ethics to release someone else's beta after they've fled a scene, or is there some sort of Mugen-y clause prohibiting such exchange of information?

I agree. For most games most or all or the time xSnes9x is perfect. I don't intend this emulator to be a replacement for xSnes9x. Of course, I am going to try and make it as user friendly and feature rich as xSnes9x. Presonally, I allways wanted a non transparent larger screenshot preview. That was probabbly my main motivation for developing this port initially. I also have allways  liked Zsnes more. I would bet there are plenty of people that would like a good port of Zsnes. Even if this isn't the case, it'll offer another option for compatability's sake.

Another main motivation is the correct speed for Starfox. There will be (not sure how long after version 1.0) at least one alternate "Star Fox" edition. The current Zsnes code emulates Star fox too fast as well. However the 11/05 (?) release emulates it correctly. I may also release a 1.42 edition because it was the last stable official release.

There will likely be 3 versions.

1) A stable 1.42 version (that will only be updated with a new stable release of 1.43)
2) A "Star Fox" version that will be a one time release and never updated.
3) A WIP version that will be updated often.

As great as xSnes9x is, it still feels incomplete compared to some of the newer emulators.  The sound could be better, plus I think the anisotropy/scale2x/soften display combination that Xport uses renders a near perfect image.  It's an older port which is never updated, which explains why it's lacking in some areas and why your project is so intriguing.  I also think you shouldn't have much trouble improving on the interface, since there are many fine examples of how an emulator should look and function on the Xbox.

Minor Update:

I've spent far too much time on the gui. It's starting to get somewhat polished. Right now it supports a rom broswer, screenshot preview, backgound music, and sound effects. I figure it's time I get the core up and running properly. So that's what I'll be working on till it's fast and clean (with sram support). After that I'll add a few options to the gui and release. I'd rather get this out when it's usable then spend tons of time on gui options, savestate support, graphic filters, controller config, etc.... They will come in later releases.

Because I work better under pressure, the official "beta 1.0" release will be April 17th.

I wouldn't have thought that. I thought Xport has allready ported all the ones worth porting. Do you mean other assembly based projects? What are some other projects that arn't on the Xbox and that would run fast enough on Xbox?

I think he meant like...you'll join a very select group of people who have successfully ported an emulator to the XBox.  Not many have the porting skills / interest combo...and not everyone with assembly skill could port to the XBox (probably? what do I know of such things).
