I've been reading around and I see many people have this problem right after the opening video so I'm assuming someone has found a way to fix this.  If anyone would like to share the knowledge it would be greatly appreciated.  biggrin.gif

Does it also happen on a pc psx emulator? Might be a bad rip or your disc is scratched up. My copy of the PC version of FF8 and I couldn't get past the intro video as well.

I'm having some pretty weird problems with FF7 and 9. In both, i'm experiencing sound played twice as fast as it should normally be, this happens in both games. I also have gotten to a small scene in ff7 where my game sort of freezes. It's when Tifa is in the chair and Barret is opening the door to get her out, and it cuts to Heideggar running up to Rufus and they are about to fire the Canon a little bit into disk 2. As Heideggar orders the men to fire the canon and they run off screen and it kind of close ups on Heideggar, the game just stops, but the music keeps playing. I've left it like this for 30+ minutes and nothing happens. Any ideas?

The sound is really weird, as my setting are peftect in both games, yet the sound is completely off in almost all parts of the game, rare instances when the game lags a bit the sound will actually cut to normal speed, since it's lagging. I've tried messing with configurations a little, and nothing has worked. I also deleted my whole emulator and game and re-transfered it over from a friend's box.

Anyway i'm using version 13, NTSC.

Any help would be appreciated. I really am not very technical with the stuff, but was thinking maybe it's because the modchip I have is a DuoX3, which i've heard is a pretty bad chip, would that have anything to do with something like this? Since i've read through most problems and never heard of anything like this one that was the first idea that poped into my head I guess.

I've been trying to play FF7 for some time now and have tried numerous settings and configurations, however after about 5 minutes or so of playing , in no specific place or sequnce (has occured both in the overworld and in battle) the game will just randomly lock up and freeze, and I will have to turn off my xbox and turn it on again.  I have been using the settings suggested and they do not circumvent this problem.  Because the lockups are completely random and not in any specific place, I don't think that the cd image is a bad file.

Has anyone else ever had a problem like this, and does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Also I should note that I stream the PSX games over my network SMB Share, does that make a difference?

Hello. I'm also having a problem with Final Fantasy VII. I'm at the part where Bugenhagen puts the key to the ancients in the music box and the water comes down over the alter. He tells me to go into the water and when I do it goes to a black screen but I can still here the water coming down. I've tried reloading it several times to no avail. I'm using pcsxbox v16. Has anyone else had this particular problem?

I ripped my copy of FF7 to my PC into .bin's and it plays fine on my ePSXe with the 1001 bios, but on my xBox it won't get past the loading screen. Is there something I need to do? I set the settings to unmap the toggle forward, frame skipping off and old frame skipping on. using 1001 bios and PCSXBOX 1.6 (i think, on the emulator list it says 1.5 core but i can choose core 1.6...)

Little help anyone?

uh i don't know how to edit my post so...i tried ripping the cd's in to *.img and it's basically the same thing. after the loading screen I'm stuck at a blank screen frozen. Atleast when I'm stuck at the loading screen I can still soft reset. I don't know what else to try. Tried bin/cue, image, different cores, HLE mode makes my emulator look all f*cked up and it resets the emu and again it gets frozen at the loading screen.

Load it with the 1.4 core.

Also, for anyone having problems with the flickering battle menus in FF9, use 1.4 core turn frameskipping off, unmap the throttle and  turn "use old frameskipping" on(not sure if that last one is needed or not...)

Also, change the Sound Timer Method to Threaded. I think it is a little faster though the sound is a little more jittery...

Sorry for the double post but the edit time expired...

After further testing it seems that FF9 hangs at a black screen after a battle on the 1.4 core...Sigh..I just can't seem to get FF9 to work decently no matter what....1.4 freezes, other cores have flickering menus I can't get rid of but don't freeze....gah I'll just play it on my PC or *gasp* actual Playstation until the emu is capable of running it without unplayable/difficult playing glitches...

FF7 works nicely though  biggrin.gif .

Ok, I tried it exactly as you said. Unmap throttle, old frameskipping on, frame skipping off, sound timer original, core 1.4, i turned on lazy screen updates cuz if you don't there's some glitches in 1.3...and still nothing. It goes to a blank screen after the loading screen. I guess I'm stuck with 1.3 sad.gif Is there a way to fix the sound glitches though? When ever I attack/get hit it is just like a weird sound

For all u FF9 NTSC people i am not sure what settings you need to run it but as for the pal versions
everything works perfectly if you use the correct settings, i played the game from disc one right through to the end with no problems what so ever.

here are the settings i used on v13.

Unmap Throttle

1. Load up PCSXBOX
2. Once the main menu loads up click Configuration
3. Click Controller configuration
4. Click Controller 1
5. Click Change Joypad Mappings
6. Click Change UI Mappings
7. Scroll to Fast Forward / Throttle and press A
8. A new window pops up and says REMAP at the top, just wait till it goes back to the UI MAPPINGS window and the Throttle Will Be Now Unmapped

Set Bios file

1. From the main menu, click Select Game
2. Then Highlight your FF9 disc one image and press X
3. The first item in the list will be BIOS Mode, make sure it is set on BIOS FILE

Graphics Fixes

While still on the same menu as BIOS MODE
1. Scroll down to Set Graphics Fixes
2. Now set everything as follows.

Odd/Even Bit Hack  ON
Expand Screen Width  OFF
Ignore Black Brightness Color  OFF
Disable Coord Check  OFF
Use Low Res FPS Timer  OFF
Use PC FPS Calculation  OFF
Lazy Screen Updates  OFF
Use Old Frame Skipping  ON
Dark Forces Fix  OFF
Frameskip  OFF
Framelimit  ON
Bit Depth  16

CPU Fixes

Press B to come out of Graphics Fixes
1. Click on Set CPU Fixes
2. Set everything to OFF except FF9 Movie Fix

Press B to leave that menu
Then B again to load your game

everything should work fine now

the only problem that i have is that the game runs a bit slow when using the menus / saving game other than that everything runs fine.

make sure, when in battle holding X hides the ATB bar at the bottom which increases the performance of the battle, use this method when performing magic to keep the effects from slowing the game down.

hope this helps some of you
