Dos/windows Gaming Compatibility List

eh, wha?
u can run windows games on  xbox (only directx8 or under).
u need a xbox linux to run any windows games tho...
get xdsl (xbox damn small linux) for a start, install wine.dsl (it can only run directx7 or under games, the other xbox linux, gentoox, etc, can install wine/cedega that can run directx8 or under games), then run sim city 3000.
there's a sub forum "nios based on xbox" or something in software forum for infos on how to install xdsl, and how to install/use wine to run sim city 3000.

this is exactly what I have been looking for.  A way to emulate my pc games on my xbox  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)   I was jumping for joy when I got some of my old dos games emulated.  I will now bw able to play my favorite turn based games and games like starcraft and civilizations.  My biggest complant about console vs pc gaming is the lack of good strategy games.  Sounds like I have my fix  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)

just have to learn linux to do so.  its about time i did i recon....  thanks for making this possible folks.

I would request that someone post some simple instructions on how to have multiple linux distributions installed at once...say X-DSL, Gentoo(X), and Linux-mugen at least, all with differently-named linuxboot.cfg files.  I'm under the impression that it's a simple matter of hex editing or the like, but have no clue what in the xbe to edit or how to do so.

Anyone try this with the barebones GentooX Pro distribution as opposed to Home?  Useful as the building blocks of a Win32-on-XBox engine?  Anyone wise to the above?  Test any more games?

You're not the first to wonder why that hasn't happened; that's why I'd like the minilinux setup to be updated with sound and proper controller support to do stuff like this.  I don't know if many people know this, but if you take a working XMugen setup, and edit the launch files, you can make it run any other TERMINAL MODE Linux program (games, emulators, whatever).  Problem is finding one that doesn't require a windowed environment.  Anyhow with the recent updates to Dosxbox the majority of the games on this list work pretty decent so once we get done we'll either publicize our spreadsheet, or figure a way to duplicate it here.

Controls are always an issue with DOS wink.gif

Madmab made the process of making controls much easier since you can now save a configuration and automatically load it for a new game.  This works great for the Wolfenstein/Spear of Destiny/Blake Stone/Ken's Labyrinth games and the old SSI D&D games since you only have to make the configs once and load them up in the 'like' games.

For most things, I would think that using Linux is unnecessary, although I'm sure it can do some things that dosxbox can't do on the XBox.  I'm very surprised on some of these games that work.  I never thought I'd see The 7th Guest or Death Rally working on the XBox, but they're damn near perfect.  Here's hoping we can get Phantasmagoria working soon.

Later,

I'm with you on loading games, it is frustrating when you just wanna get in a play something...

But there is absolutely no reason to use xdsl for dos. If anyone were to release a build it would have to be for windows games that run in xdsl. Like grim fandango, or starcraft (haven't tested full version yet, but demo plays through), also there is a great number of linux games which are worth a play..

The configuration of many games in linux can be painful to have working correctly, and I don't know if anyone would have the time or patience to put together a list of games that do not run anywhere else on the xbox but xdsl.
