You'll need to be root to make any major system changes like that, right click your file manager and select 'launch as root/superuser' or something like that. from there I copied it to / , then right clicked and told it to 'extract here', this is all just off the top of my head, but you should get the jist of it.

Man oh man, the xbox scene gets better every day.  I'm the type of person who loves the openess of gaming on the PC, but I hate having to install/configure/patch pc games that I might play for a day or two until I move onto the next game.  That's why I find all of these xbox ports so intriguing.  Once you get the linux end of it up and running good, its just a matter of copying over your pc game to play it.  From there, someone could throw all that together and seed it somewhere so it's all ready to go out the box.

I'm curious as to how most of you play these games; do you sit in front of your tv with a table/stand and your keyboard and mouse?  Or have you gotten a wireless setup to allow for some couch gaming?  I'm all for playing everything on the big screen/surround sound from my couch, but it seems to me most of these games would require sitting close to the tv with a keyboard and mouse just so you could read the text.  Could someone enlighten me on exactly how you're playing these games?

On the couch with my logitech wireless kb and mouse on a 48" JVC widescreen HDTV biggrin.gif oh sweet goodness

If you run it in something less then HD quality (regular 640x480 or 800x600) the text is very readable, when playing in 720p I cant read shit, but once its setup cedega(which i know not everyone will be able to use) makes  it's menu very readable. Most games that I play are easy enough to read, although my screen goes fubar when I play them fullscreen so i run them in a window. For the most part everything works sweet, I just wish I had enough skills to code a frontend for wine that could be open source so people wouldnt have to use the command prompt, or cedega. Winex which is what cedega is based on is still free, you just have to compile it from CVS, I never have any luck getting it to compile, maybe someone with a little more skills wants to try to get an updated version compiled/running?

I'm glad to see there is an interest in this and that i'm not the only one that cares about this, hopefully we'll show there is a demand for it, and someone can code something that will make all of our lives easier biggrin.gif

I do that same exact shit, but I think I have more fun trying to get it running! I usually delete the stuff since my 300gb xbox hdd stays full

It would be impossible for wine to run nativly on the xbox (my imput).. Here's my idea's why..

Wine was programmed and built to read windows API's and translate them in to linux.. Wine is 12 years old and is still in beta testing.. Trying to change all that code for the xbox .. Heh.. Good luck :-P.. Wine does no emulation like dos box where you are emulating an OS.. "Dos".. Since Wine Is Not an Emulater.. (pun's!) And since it's made to translate API's running natvitivly would be hard..

But i'm sure i could be wrong.. I know almost nothing about compiling source code for the xbox.. Just doesn't make sence.. Translating API's for a windows kernal to another windows kernal.. :-P

i'm getting rcr hacky to run faster and faster everyday as i figure out what i can delete from xdsl and what not to delete.

also, i dont have an xb mouse, so i have to play via VNC on my pc and see how fast its running on my tv. (yes yes not very efficient)

a configurable qjoypad .dsl plugin would kick ass here.

for rcrhacky this is all thats needed.

xerver( only since wine needs it) and thats it. not even a window manager is needed.

so essentially this is the setup so far that i have.

xdsl boots. mounts wine.
then through the initrc i toss it a cmd line that tells wine to load rcrhacky.exe in /home/dsl (or wherever)

and thats it.

aside from the main issues there 1 more that i need help with.

rcrhacky is a standalone FLASH game. so when it loads it loads in a small window.

is there a way through initrc to tell wine or some to run rcrhacky in fullscreen?(it can be done using VIEW/FULLSCREEN in the game) but has to be done everything you play.

Just managed to get Grim Fandango running. I'm running it under gentoox home on top of cedega. Game stutters somewhat when it loads speach files, but turning speach off fixes this. Looking for a fix for this and i'll try to add it to the list tommorow night when I get home from work so I can do some more testing on it.

cedega doesnt work with xdsl, so i changed the linux to gentoox, damn gentoox's alot better (imo), and wine in gentoox doesnt freeze any game, sometimes slower than xdsl's wine tho (sili, if u still dont know how to get wine working in gentoox, just type "emerge wine" as root in terminal, then it'll download/install latest version of wine automatically, it takes 3-5 hours to complete, when it's done, type "wine game.exe" or whatever to load a game).
cedega seem to be same as wine (latest version) but wine's faster than cedega when starting a game in gentoox.
and dune 2000 doesnt work with wine in gentoox, but it works with cedega.
i'll post more working games info later, am downloading alot of games atm.

Are you going to test any more games yourself for this list sili? I believe that if this list has enough games tested that more people will post and test games of there own. At least keep up the good work and test as many games as you can sili. I would test some games myself but I only own five PC games that are of no use to this list. I have added this thread to my signature. I do not want this thread to die.

I'd be interested to see if Baldur's Gate would play, given that Fallout and Fallout 2 use the same Infinity engine...if anyone's looking for something to test.
