FBA-XXX Pro v1.01-- Posted by XanTium on February 1 13:03 EST
From readme/nfo:

Quote

FBA-X(info)XX Pro is a a derivative build of FBAxxx(info), the main purpose of which is to add support for the latest and most accurate ROMsets available to the emulation scene. A great many changes and additions have been made to the rather outdated sets supported by the original build, including new parents, new clones, new bootlegs, support for both encrypted and decrypted Neo-Geo sets, as well as the latest CPS and other set updates from MAME. Alot of new code has been added to improve the accuracy of the emulation, there are some minor tweaks and bugfixes to the emulator itself, and a new default skin (a modified version of the excellent Fighter skin by Duracelleur) is included.

Both Romcenter and ClrMAMEPro DATs can also be found in the package so please make use of them to ensure the ROMsets you have are the ones FBA-XXX Pro requires. And don't forget you'll also need the Neo-Geo bios set (neogeo.zip) in your ROMs folder.

Wow it's been a while since there was an update on the FBA emulator. Does it boost up alot emulation accuracy? Anyway great work, I'm always amazed to see this emulator running!

Not on mine it dont. After the original release of FBAX my xmen vs street fighter set has worked less and less. Originally the whole set worked. Now none of them work on this latest release. If working = inaccurate.... gimme inacurate.

Roms update over time. I suggest grabbing the entire new set (0.103) and run the DAT through it like I'm going to do tomorrow once it's done downloading.

And you expect a set from that long ago to still be up-to-date?

The xmvsfu set is working fine for me. The problem is not the emulator it's your romset.

You need to read the read "FBAXXX Pro.txt" file.  Pro uses much more up-to-date ROM sets than the standard version of FBAXXX... it's the entire reason Pro exists.  With almost every version a few ROMS get updated.  The sets you mentioned have been updated recently so it's likely that your ROMS are just out-of-date as Likkle stated.  If you don't want to bother trying to keep your ROMS up-to-date then you can just stick with the standard version and you likely won't have to worry about your ROMS not working.

Well, I know that King of Gladiator (kog.zip) and Idol Mahjong Final Romance 2 (fr2ch.zip) have also been added recently.

Check out the file in the archive called gamelist.txt.

It lists all 647 sets supported by FBA-XXX Pro.

One could argue that older sets, being inaccurate dumps, are more likely to have errors in-game. But in reality the only gain is if you're heavily into emulation and like to keep your sets up-to-date with the most accurate ROMs and want to be able to play them on the Xbox. From the readme:
QUOTE
Why 'Pro'?
----------
FBA-XXX Pro is so called because it is primarily intended for those who are a little more serious about ROM collecting and/or emulation than perhaps the casual user. The newer ROM dumps required by many of Pro's supported sets can be far more difficult to acquire than the older files found in FBA-XXX. For this reason I would say if you can't find the necessary sets and just want to play the games you would be much better off sticking with the original non-Pro build.

Since I'm one of these people, to me FBA-XXX Pro is a godsend. I'd hate having to keep old obsolete ROMs around just for Xbox use (as we have to do with MAME). At least I know when I update to the latest NG and CPS2 sets that there is an emulator that will support them.

When I read the word add.... I think additional... more... greater... not replace.. not different.. This is what they're using to let people know a new release is up. It should include details EVERYONE will be able to identify with. If you read the news item it seems as if they've only added to the emulator. when I read minor tweaks and bugfixes to the emulator itself I think, cool they haven't changed a whole hell of a lot, just made it run smoother.

QUOTE

No, but I don't expect it to be unuseable. I expect it to be included or some mention on the main page indicating some older romsets will not work with the newer version.

See, here's what I don't get. Say I have a "crappy" version of x-men vs. street fighter. But it works perfect on an emu. Then some one makes a cleaner dump of it. Why wouldn't the cleaner dump work on the older emu? it's supposed to be the same exact game right? so some of the 0s and 1s got changed a little. it's not like the game now requires 128 megs of ram all of a sudden... it's the same game.
Ok so then who ever dumped the game figured out an all new way of dumping the game? Whats gettng me is the fact that one app plays 600 some odd games... but if one of the rom sets is just slightly off that game wont work at all. no getting to the dipswitches, no "drugs are bad" screen, no nothing except "you may want to try a clone"
