QUOTE
In all seriousness, if you work so hard on something, and you don't want others to "leech" it, then why put it on a public site? You are making a very stupid mistake if you think someone is going to copy it, and then do what they please with it. Yeah, I really appreciate that someone would spend their time doing something that is painstaking, and then "taking credit" for their hard work. But I really am annoyed by the fact that they'll put all that work into something, mainly to receive kudos from others for their dedication, and then dangle their work out in front of you and say "you can look, but you can't touch".

Whether people like it or not, the internet is pretty much a community of people that like to stockpile things. Some people collect mp3's, some xbox games, some roms, some pictures, some Mugen characters, etc. Why not share the wealth, and help prevent someone the trouble of going through the process of collecting a "complete set" of something? The resources are all there, but not always in one place. Someone will get them all eventually, why bother trying to prevent that? If you're so worried about that, then you wouldn't be placing it out in the public to begin with.

Xbox emulators and applications are a perfect example of how "sharing the wealth" makes for a more presentable and complete experience. If programmers decided that others could "look but not touch" do you think that XBMC would be the all emcompassing program that it is? Compiling resources generally gets the public to recognize things they would've probably never heard of or used before. You really think someone would be playing some obscure NES games if they weren't part of a collection? Hell, if I was so proud of my work that I spent all of my time working on, I'd love knowing that it is a "essential" part of someone's collection.

I'm not trying to kill off a scene, although it seems to me that the scene is killing itself. I've been into emulation for over 10 years now, and I've never heard of Mugen before. And just as I find it and get into it, I find that it has been slowly dieing off for 3-4 years except for a few survivors. Think it would really be that way if you could download a "Street Fighter 2 Pack" instead of hopping a few thousand sites and finding a few links that aren't dead? In a few years time do you think that the already old web pages with dead links will still be around for someone to enjoy someone else's hard work? I think not.

Whatever, man. I've already answered these questions.
Just go ask this question at the Mugen Guild Forums and they'll answer it for you.
Peace.

i just have to say it, i think most people from the mugen community are annoying fuckwads imposing double-standard bullshit.

Not to mention that yes, ripping sprites off copyrighted games IS illegal and taking the credit of someone else's work (same with coding character moves), i just MUST add the fact that most people use winMugen, wich is in itself ILLEGAL as it all originated from a featured-limited beta released to donators, and has been unlocked with the use of an hack. This was the cause for the compagny to mostly stop development.

So much for giving credit to the work of an author....

no, in evox it comes up as just "Linux"

i will try with 480p off and report in a while

ok, now with the xbox running on a regular tv, it works
is there a way to get it working with 480p?

A friend of mine has a softmodded Xbox (v1.0) and as soon as he runs Linux or Xmugen, his Xbox LED goes orange and the fan speeds up very fast. This is with 480p on and off.

On my Xbox, Xmugen ran the very first time and I didn't have to switch 480p off.

regarding addons (caracters), it would be better to go to mugen dedicated sites. this thread would be more efficient if it deals only with Xmugen-linux problems.

I didn't get to try this yet, but I wanted to know if the esc button was mapped onto the joystick?
You need to press esc to back out of menus on mugen and quit modes like training.

this is easy to do. i will look.

this is beyond the scope of this project, so i will not look at it.

My other problem, is that I've only been able to load a game in training mode; Arcade just won't seem to work for me.  Everytime I try, it will go back to the linux screen and ask if my joystick is setup properly.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

i will try. but it seems one of your joystick is not detected.

*Have not been able to bypass the error I am getting on load of Joy2key. A error stating "Error opening /dev/js1! Are you sure you have joystick support in your kernel?" comes up preventing me of moving any further. Any help on this one is aprecative.

if you've only one xbox joystick that's normal. /dev/js0 is the first joystick. /dev/js1 is the second. but the error should not prevent mugen from starting. try to reupload my standard configuration. if you have 2 joystick, it would means that one is not detected. is it a real MS xbox joystick ?

With any updates you may make, is there any possibility in having a Joy2key config file that users can edit?  If not, then if you could please tell us what keys you have the joysticks mapped to with your setup.  That way we can kind of reverse engineer the button configs by changing what keys are mapped to what in the mugen.cfg.  That would allow someone like to to create some standard controller setups that people might use, and you could just use whichever setup is best for you, by swapping it out with the mugen.cfg.

Also its not as big of an issue as I found a workaround, but if you could look into why the screenpacks won't work by specifying its folder in mugen.cfg.  I ended up overwriting the standard system.def and select.def in /data/ with the ones from the screenpack I wanted.  This works, but can be sloppy when you want to try out different screenpacks without corrupting the original settings.

As far as my controller error's I keep getting, I've noticed something else.  The controller's I'm using are both S controllers, and are identified as such in Linux.  When I use the 1st controller to navigate the menus, it works for 2-3 seconds then stops.  The 2nd controller works fine, but the 1st one stops responding.  Then when I go into training, I can move and control fine with controller 2, but controller 1's dpad won't respond.  Maybe my controller is going bad (doubt it, but who knows)?

Well, I tried the faq above on installing screenpacks. Still cant get any to work.
After I have to press "Y" to select 16bit mode, it kicks me back to the previous screen where it loaded Joy2Key.  Ive moved the fonts from the pack and all. What am I missing?

it is possible that the screenpack you are using isn't linux compatable.  Most packs are created with dos or windows in mind.

Don't forget , you can use the "BIG" motif in the "big" folder to have 60 character slots !
On that note, how many characters have you been able to stuff into the game ?

As others have stated, there really is no "linux" compatible stuff, as most stuff is winmugen compatible, and it is a hack of the linuxmugen.  So far to my experience, all of the chars, stages, and screenpacks have worked perfectly, if not better than on winmugen for me.

For those out there that have gotten this working in arcade mode, can you give me some examples of your setup so I can figure out what is wrong with mine?  After being reminded yesterday that everything in linux is case sensitive, I went through my select.def and completely double checked that every character was named and linked to properly.  Since putting this modified select.def back on my xbox, I can't even load up mugen as it gives the:

"usb.c: USB device 4 (vend/prod 0x45e/0x280) is not calimed by any active"...

"Error opening /dev/js1! Are you sure you have joystick support in your kernel?"

Does this require that 2 joysticks are plugged in at all time else it won't work?  Or is it just not liking something I've changed in the mugen.cfg (just changed the display depth to 16)?

I hate this feeling of being so close yet so far away....

My xbox is a version 1.0, my controller (just one) is a original (Big Boi,Hamburger,The Duke) one and I am using  S-video.  I can use arcade mode just fine.

You shouldn't have to change the mugen.cfg... I didn't.

Interesting, every time I enable my mugen depth for 16bit, I get a "controller loop" error.  Once I set it back to 32, everything is fine.  I'm confused to why it likes to give a controller error anytime it doesn't like one of your settings; seems they should be totally unrelated.  Unless somehow the settings in the Joy2key setup are conflicting with mugen.cfg when its loaded?
