changing contents of all def files to lowercase:

in ultraedit32
go to search/replace in files

under Find type A
replace with a
in files/types *.def
select your directory
select search in sub directories
do not select match case or preserve case
click replace all

do that with every letter of the alphabet.
Should only take like 3 minutes

I did the same and I can now play Xmugen in 480p.

Also, for those who say Xmugen crashes in Team Arcade mode, maybe 64MB of RAM isn't enough to load 4 different characters all at once. My Xbox has 128MB of RAM and Team Arcade mode works fine.

Ive had some odd crashes. Basically at first I thought that loading specific characters was casuing crashes, but Ive found that sometimes things work, and sometimes they dont. Loading any character at least on my end, may or may not cause a crash. Any clue to what is causing this?

The crashing on my end seems pretty random too.  Though after going through fantaboy's list of crap that has to be there in order for stuff to work, I've found a TON of that kind of stuff being wrong with my chars/stages.  It's to the point now that I fix a few characters, try them out, it works fine for a few tries.  I then try later, and it craps out.  I then go back over my characters only to find more errors I missed earlier.  Mugen is a very tedious hobby.  For those still wanting something to get them started, I did some searching around, and found quite a few mugen torrents already floating around.  Search around on some popular torrent sites and you'll find them.  They are generally small, but its a start.

some of you want to have the back key simulating the esc key, upload the 2 joy2key in your mugen directory

http://rapidshare.de...oy2key.rar.html

Thanks, works great alg5!

Could you also map the Pause/Break key to the Xbox RIGHT TRIGGER button? The Pause key brings up the training menu in Training mode and pauses the game in all other modes. Atleast thats what the Pause key does in DOS/WIN versions of Mugen.

To everyone else wondering why the CPU opponents act stupid and are easy, AI.Cheat doesn't work in Linux Mugen *2002.04.14*. The setting in the mugen.cfg has no effect.

I'm finding half of my problems are still somehow controller related.  It WILL NOT let me use either my blue xbox controller s, or my green Halo edition controller s.  Linux picks up both, but when I get to the mugen menu with the blue one, it will lock up the dpad, and eventually crash.  The Halo one keeps making it show the controller loop dialog.  I've been using a green controller s, and for the most part things are working great, but I'm still getting js1 errors occasionally.  Any idea why its being so damn picky about the controllers?

I believe that linux (on the box) always had trouble with the contoller-s ... sad.gif
Read this a few years back.

You should find "the duke" if you can , it plays flawlessly... wink.gif

Have you tried 4 different characters in Team Arcade mode and it doesn't lockup?

My other friends have 64MB Xbox's and Team Arcade locks up unless you choose small characters or 4 KFMs.

Also, like you mentioned, big characters crash their Xbox's too like P.O.T.S Shin Gouki and DG's SF3 Ryu.

On my 128MB Xbox I don't get any crashing with big characters. All the crashes I was getting were related to some of my characters filenames and folder names not being in lowercase but since I fixed that XMugen has been near flawless.

If virtual memory can be implemented in Xbox Linux then I don't think big characters will crash XMugen on a 64MB Xbox. Just look at FBA-XXX, it has virtual memory support and big Neo Geo roms that are over 80MB uncompressed load just fine.

For those of you with HDTVs and connect your Xbox to your TV with component cables, to play XMugen in 480p simply change video=xbox:640x480 to video=xbox:480p in linuxboot.cfg.

You can also run XMugen in 720p if you have a Xbox that isn't v1.6. Just use video=xbox:720p instead.

I dusted off "the duke" and gave it a go, and as usual, the dpad locks up.  Its weird though, as I'm using the 1st controller to select arcade mode, but I'm suddenly controlling p2.  As soon as I try to do anything with the second controller (the duke, or other ones that won't work) it craps out.

For those running HDTV, has anyone had any luck with setting the overscan?  The amount for me when set on 480p is tolerable, only a little bit is off screen, but if I could I like to correct that...

Have you tried unpluging the second controller (in port 2) ? because that alone can cause joy2key to screw up...

I don't think overscan can be adjusted in 480p/720p modes, only 480i.

I have some overscan at the top and bottom of the screen (sides are fine) but it doesn't chop off the lifebars so I'm set.

Yeah I've unplugged it, but usually no sooner than I do that, then I get the "js1" error.  It's kind of a catch 22.

This question will probably only be answered by alg, but any chance that having another linux app installed on my xbox be conflicting with mugen?  I'm not sure what half of it means, but I get half a dozen errors when booting the mugen.  A few of them are:

"hdb: packet command error: status=0x51
 hdb: packet command error: error=0x54"

"  Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
  (vendor-specific error) -- (asc=0x81, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Mode Sense 10" packet command was:
  "5a 00 2a 00 00 00 00 00 18 00 00 00 "  "

"Compressed image found for ramdisk.
EXT2-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is reccomended"

That makes me wonder if I should delete my XDSL.  I was only using it to try to run mugen anyhow, so no big loss.

Is it just me, or is mugen determined to drive me insane one way or another?  grr.gif
