How To Get Epsxe Working On The Xbox Using Xdsl
« Reply #45 on: January 24, 2006, 08:31:00 AM »

Well, this is strange. When i try and type in sudo modprobe joydev, i get a message that says this

Note: /etc/modules.conif is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.31-xbox modules.dep

I dont know what this means (or how to fix it) but what i DO know it means is that the controller will not config. Please help? Ive waited to play valkyrie profile on the box for a long time.

:edit:
Somehow, during me typing that and five minutes later, it started working. Dont ask.

I get that warning whenever I get the controller working. I first type "chmod a+r /dev/input/js0", then "sudo modprobe joydev" afterwards. I would then get the same warning, but ePSXe would start to see my controller. Typing "sudo modprobe joydev" alone never gives me the warning and never gets my controller working

I have the same problem as infidelity, where when I try to edit any of the plugins it just exits epsxe and returns me the filemanager.

Any suggestions?

Your plugins are conflicting with each other.  Any cdrom plugin or either of Pete's OGL plugins cause this.  only plugins that work with epsxe on xbox as far as I've been able to determine are EternalSPU, PeopsOSSspu, and the peopssoftx plugin.  Any others will cause the error that you stated until the offending plugin is deleted.

also a warning to you guys...If you delete the config file for epsxe (it's the only hidden file in your epsxe folder) you run the risk of your memory cards erasing themselves.  so if you have to delete it to fix an errored install down the line be sure to back your cards up somewhere.

Here is what's in my plugins dir:

CODE

868,740 libgpuPeopsSoftX.so.1.0.17
11,069 peops_soft_readme_1_17.txt
25,404 peops_soft_version_1_17.txt
361,368 libspuEternal.so.1.41
15,303 libspuEternal.so.1.41.txt
27,651 libpadJoy-0.8.so
5,133 libpadJoy-0.8.so.txt
60,280 libspuPeopsOSS.so.1.0.9
9,010 libspuPeopsOSS.so.1.0.9_readme.txt
10,097 libspuPeopsOSS.so.1.0.9_version.txt

and in my cfg dir:
CODE

56,988 cfgPeopsSoft
1,121 gpuPeopsSoftX.cfg
41,258 cfgPadJoy
22,736 cfgPeopsOSS
703 spuPeopsOSS.cfg

Unless it's the readme files causing this?? Otherwise they're exactly as in your orig post.

Thanks

Have you enabled all your files for read and write permissions?  click ('A' button) and drag to highlight all the files in your cfg directoryusing efelm (the filecabinet icon on the desktop).  Then right click ('B' button) to bring up the drop menu.  Select properties and then permissions.  you should see a window pop up with a bunch of rectangular buttons.  Make sure that all of the buttons are pressed in then hit apply to all.

Do the same process to your files in your plugin, memcard, bios, and epsxe main folder.  If you're still having problems with them after that try moving your readmes to the Docs folder in epsxe.

Bah, still don't work. Yes, I did have all the 9 permissions set in the first place, and I"ve tried without the txt files.

Epsxe won't even load now. I've tried a few times with a clean install, same thing, it won't even load.

Although it does generate the .epsxerc file. I have a keyboard & mouse, so I can just right click on the epsxe directory

for permissions, and choose all 9 squares, then also tick the "recursive subdirectories" option to do all folders and

files. Then go "Apply to all".

I cannot get into epsxe from the linux dashboard. When I select it, by double lcikcing A, a menu pops up asking me what I would like to do with this file, and it gives me three options, "Enter  A Command To Open With" - "View File" - "Cancel"

????

How do I fix this?

EDIT:
Argh!
Forget about it. Forgot the permission..

Here's an interesting one, I got to the point of booting XDSL for the first time. Gets to the Xromwell loader/bootstrap (beats me what it is) then shows a CDROM and a monitor down the bottom.

Now, if I press A or L or R (triggers) it will sit for a sec, then eject the DVDROM (Samsung) and say "Insert disc and press A". In another two seconds it retracts the tray and shutsdown.

Any ideas?

if you do not see an icon of a joystick on that screen you missed a step when installing xdsl.  Likely you do not have linuxboot.cfg in E: root directory so it is asking you for the cdrom that you were "supposed" to burn (but we did not) to find the boot file.

I'm sooo close...I can almost taste it.

When configuring the joypad, I have two controllers plugged in (Logitech wireless in port 1, blue s in port 2). So, I click the buton, for say, L1. The box dips down a bit. Pressing black on either controller doesn't seem to do anything.

So, how can I do this part, heh?

...This part should be pretty self explanatory if you're familiar with installing things in dos.  just follow the onscreen instructions using the keyboard that should've loaded up when the desktop did.  When it asks you where to make the loopback file I'd recomend Drive F 2000 megs if you have the space.  And also be sure to do a 128 meg swap file when it asks.

OK when you're done with that reset your xbox (right click and scroll down to shutdown/reboot) and then reload the linux app...middle option as before.  you should now be giving a choice of how to boot.  Select Loopback install and in a few minutes you'll be back on the linux dashboard.

*Linux noob alert*
Hey guys...I followed the instructions all the way up to the point of giving a choice of how to boot. I select loopback install, and it proceeds to load up, but I get the following message...

Activating swap...
Checking root file system...
fsk 1.34-WIP
/dev/loop0 has gone 49710 days without being checked, check forced
/dev/loop0: Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan link list found

/dev/loop0: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; run fsck MANUALLY.

fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. Please note that the root file system is currently mounted read only, to remount it read - write:

#mount -n -o remount, rw /

This is my first time messing with linux, so I dont know...
Is there anything Im doing wrong????

Thanx
