Does it runs on the Xbox v1.6?, I think there is a overscan problem with all linux distributions on v1.6 consoles.

when i get to this part:
QUOTE
OK...now that that is done we can set ePSXe to play games. close emelfm and look at your desktop. A the top in the left corner is an icon called Aterminal (looks like a monitor). click on it and what looks like a dos box should open up. If you don't have the virtual keyboard already open you can do so by clicking the keyboard icon on the desktop. (if you type on the keyboard and nothing seems to be happening on the terminal screen in the lower right corner of the keyboard is a focus button...just click it then click the terminal screen to get it to work)

Now you will type:

sudo modprobe joydev

...and press enter. this will enable your xbox pad as a joystick. On my xbox for some reason js0 (controller 1) is enabled on controller port 2 when I do this. So i recommend having two controls plugged in at all times (these must be plugged in already when xdsl is booted up). You must do this EVERYTIME that you restart linux if you want ePSXe (or any other program) to see your xpad as a joystick.

that doesnt work i type in "sudo modprobe joydev" and it says something like couldnt find command can someone help me fix this. And when i get to this part:

QUOTE
OK...now we setup ePSXe. Open emelfm again and open the epsxe folder. You should see a file named epsxe...double click it and if all is well the ePSXe emulator screen will pop up. 1st things first: the controller plugin. on the epsxe screen click on the config tab at the top then scroll down to where it says ext. game pad. Select ammoq's padjoy pkugin from the list and click configure. your screen should be filled with a window with text representations of the psx controller setup. My analog sticks were loose so i had small interferance while I was doing this. But as long as you button inputs (B1, B2, B3, etc) match mine your end results should be fine.

ill click on epsxe and a box pops up and says something like "open with a command" "view the file" or "close" or something along those lines. Someone please help me.

Hey thanks alot for such an excellent tutorial.  Helps alot for those of us who have never used Linux before.

I'd appreciate it if one of you experts could shed some light on configuring an S controller.  It's the only area in the tutorial that lost me.  Right now everything's screwed up.  Pressing any of the buttons L2, L1, R2, R1 gives me a random A or B + or - value.  I can't even get a B to show up anymore.  It's so cryptic to me I don't know what any of these A3- and A4+ and B13 , X5 then the ??? what does all this mean?

The readme that came with the files talks about strings of digits that should pop up when clicking the buttons but I don't see anything.

Right now about half of my buttons have ??? next to them and the rest are just a mess.  Can someone please explain how I go about gettting to the values mentioned in the tutorial for these buttons?  And how do you get the values to stick without changing when you go to set the value of the other buttons.

Please help.  I'm at my wits end here... been working on this since this afternoon and it's now 3AM!!

I've got an unusual problem.  I've used Linux a few times on PC in the past, but following this tutorial, I make it into Linux, but when I go to create the loopback install, it won't allow me to create a swap file on my F drive, I get a permissions error.  I noticed during bootup that I get a FATX error stating that I've got read only access.  I've unplugged all other devices, and I only have an S type official controller plugged into port 1.  I've wiped out everything a couple of times and reuploaded it with the same results.  It did allow me to create a swap file on my E drive, but once I boot up using the loopback and enable FTP, and I log in using dsl/dsl, I end up in a different directory structure than expected (I don't have the typical C/E/F type view, nor do I end up in /home/dsl/)  I have about 6 gigs free on my F drive, so it shouldn't be an issue.  This is what my relevant directory structure looks like:

E:/
linuxboot.cfg (matching the one in the tutorial)

E:/KNOPPIX
    KNOPPIX
    linux24
    minirt24.gz

E:/Apps/Linux
    default.xbe

I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong but any help would be appreciated.

The files that are in the zip files are actually unlabeled zip files themselves, try opening them with winrar again.

sure would like to get the controller configured properly.  still can't use it, gets games to run fine though.   Says the plugin is working but the config just doesn't want to work.  any ideas?

Getting the feeling this thread is dead or those in the know could care less.  Just seems like the controller plugin and config is THE most important step and yet it gets the very least amount of detail in the tutorial.

If someone could write a tutorial on just getting the controller configured and working instead of the mouse pointer remaining on the screen would be a huge help.
