How To Get Epsxe Working On The Xbox Using Xdsl

No problem.  I too was surprised with how well it runs both in compatability as well as speed.  Especially since it's currently using a software only plugin.  If there was just a way to get the mouse disabled on controller port 2 this would be the ideal alternative for PSX emulation IMO (Resident Evil is almost unplayable with the current setup thanks to the up is forward aspect of the gameplay lol)...here's hoping that someone more proficient in Linux than I can come up with a solution to that problem.  or maybe a future version of XDSL will have support for such a thing.

Add Resident Evil 1-3 and Silent Hill to the playable list (aside from the above complaint)

Tail concerto also works but gets tossed under games that suffer from the word rewrite bug...almost as bad as Brave Fencer Musashi.  Still just using the default settings from my tutorial.

Possibly but if there is no one knows how yet or hasn't stated if they do know.  If not hopefully demand will get it implemented in the next version of XDSL.

Alright...found a solution for the damn mouse pointer problem.  When you start your Xbox hold the left analog stick on your 2nd controller slightly up.  Keep it held up until you get to the xdsl desktop (it will take xdsl a few more seconds than normal to detect the controller so don't freak when you can't move the mouse like normal)

When it does detect the controllers the mouse will drag itself down to the bottom of the screen when 2nd control is in the normal state.  this means as long as your workdesk bar is at the top of the screen you should never have anymore problems with the mouse pointer.  A working solution until we get a better one.  Even makes the resident evils and silent Hill playable despite the up is forward nonsense.

hmm, does anyone know if it's possible to create a custom version of linux/xdsl that would boot directly into ePSXe, so you wouldn't see the desktop/etc?

QUOTE FROM PAGE 1 - dealing about the contoller files. " You can get one here. Same as last time open the zip in the zip and inside the folder you should see a folder marked bin...inside that you should see two files. move the one with cfg in it's name into the cfg folder and the other one into your plugins folder."

When I obtain this zip file, it tells me to enter a name for it, and there's already a name there, "
padJoy082." Now, when I click ok, there is only 1 file inside this, and it is, "padJoy082." ??

So where is this bin folder, and where is the cfg files?

I even went to ngemu.com, and went to the linux site, to see if he mislinked the files. I downloaded another set of files, but they didn't include what he mentioned.

Any ideas? I'd like to get this working.

Thank You

EDIT - ALSO

I cannot get into epsxe from the linux dashboard. When I select it, by double lcikcing A, a menu pops up asking me what I would like to do with this file, and it gives me three options, "Enter  A Command To Open With" - "View File" - "Cancel"

????

sorry, disregard that last one, it won't let me edit twice

I'm having a problem with the controller configuration in epsxe.

I scroll to Config, and I go down to EXT Game Pad, and on PAGE 1 of this thread, it sasy to select ammoqs plugin thingy? well, there is no drop menu for me at Ext Game Pad. And when I press A on EXT Game Pad, it takes me back to emeflm.

What am i doing wrong? am I missing something?

EDIT  - This also applies if I try to select Video & Sound.

as long as you have extracted any file with cfg in it's name is in the config folder and any file with so is in the plugins folder from those plugin zips you should have no problem detecting them.  You are running from a loopback install yes?  and if so you are using the EACT plugins from my walkthrough correct?

OK...now that that is done we can set ePSXe to play games.  close emelfm and look at your desktop.  A the top in the left corner is an icon called Aterminal (looks like a monitor).  click on it and what looks like a dos box should open up.  If you don't have the virtual keyboard already open you can do so by clicking the keyboard icon on the desktop.  (if you type on the keyboard and nothing seems to be happening on the terminal screen in the lower right corner of the keyboard is a focus button...just click it then click the terminal screen to get it to work)

Now you will type:

sudo modprobe joydev

...and press enter.  this will enable your xbox pad as a joystick.  On my xbox for some reason js0 (controller 1) is enabled on controller port 2 when I do this.  So i recommend having two controls plugged in at all times (these must be plugged in already when xdsl is booted up).  You must do this EVERYTIME that you restart linux if you want ePSXe (or any other program) to see your xpad as a joystick.

if u dont feel like typing this up everytime, right click emelfm and open as super user and navigate to /opt/ and highlight bootlocal.sh and click edit on the center menu. type this in a new line:

modprobe joydev

and save. this will run everytime at bootup. you can also add "/usr/sbin/betaftpd" if you want the ftp daemon to run automatically as well. as for the ppl asking if you can make epsxe run at startup. you can but it crashes when its ran like this. the display output doesnt appear so it closes. possibly the only way to get it to run correctly is to add a "halt" command, ie; allow it to run after x of seconds after the x-display starts up.

There's no "double emulation" going on here, since Linux runs on the Xbox natively.

Um... where did you get the idea that Beyond The Beyond "paved the way" for Golden Sun?

I have the same problem as infidelity, where when I try to edit any of the plugins it just exits epsxe and returns me the filemanager.

Any suggestions?

Beyond the Beyond was one of the first PS rpgs to come out, and judging from the screenshots on my old old EGM issue, the battle system looks a lot like golden sun (i guess, not sure though. Well, they do have the same battle perspective tongue.gif )
