SFA3 stutters on every drive, regardless of the speed. Playing it on the original 8GB Xbox drive, 80GB, 120GB and now 250GB and it always stutters, regardless. It stutters with 64MB of RAM as well as 128MB of RAM.
The big test for the stuttering isn't really the intro. Get to Bison as a last boss in SFA3 (Ryu has him as a boss, I believe) and watch the slowdown. The combination of the rain falling and the thunder in the background. It's been a little while since I've played it on MAMEdOx, but I seem to remember that setting frameskip to auto and pressing either F11 or F12 on the keyboard to see how many frames were being skipped. It was skipping 11 frames (the maximum, I believe) and it was choppy as all hell. In other words, it (Bison's stage) is completely unplayable with the current versions of MAME on the Xbox because of it. FBAXXX plays it flawlessly and that's why I basically just use FBAXXX for the games it supports and MAME for the rest. Yeah, most of the games do run fine in MAME anyways, but FBA is meant specifically for running those games and probably uses some optimizations that MAME just doesn't have yet and that might be why we see the stuttering in MAME for the more intense games like SFA3. For 99% of the CPS1/2 games, MAME works great though.
Not all emulators are created equal. Some games work better in one program than another. Some emulators run some games better than others. That's life in the emulation world.
"I know most dev of mame and deal with them regulary and wrote alot of the code in it"
I don't want you to think that I'm trying to attack you with this question or anything like that, I'm just simply curious. What code did you contribute to MAME? What drivers have you worked on for MAMEDev? I just don't remember seeing your name anywhere in the changelogs unless you go by something else there.
