Darcelf/Alg5 released a new emulator for Xbox. Xzx81 is an xbox port of Xz81, a zx81 emulator.
"The Sinclair ZX81 home computer, released by Sinclair Research in 1981, was the followup to the company's ZX80. The case was black, with a membrane keyboard; the machine's distinctive appearance was the work of industrial designer Rick Dickinson. Video output, as in the ZX80, was to a television set, and saving and loading programs was via an ordinary home audio tape recorder to magnetic audio tapes."

From the readme/nfo:

Official Site: http://alg5.ifrance....Xzx81/index.htm, http://www.darcelf.tk
Download Binaries: n/a (<a href="http://www.xbox-scene.com/xdk.php">built with XDK</a>)
Download SourceCode: <a href="http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/~xbox/xbox-scene/sources/emulators/Xzx81b1s.rar">here</a>
</p>

Being from america I'm not as familar with this machine as I'd like to be.  However, after subscribing to Retro Gamer I've read about some pretty cool games for this machine.  I think that one of the games I really want to try out "Lords of Midnight" runs on a ZX81.  This is the perfect excuse to try the game out.   smile.gif

Glad to see people still working on emulators for the xbox!

EDIT: From the looks of it this might not be the machine I thought it was.  Still going to try it though.   smile.gif

You're thinking of the ZX Spectrum, not the ZX81 (Manic Miner, Wanted: Monty on the Run, Jet Set Willy, Monty on the Run, Auf Wiedersehen Monty etc were on the Spectrum). There was a very good conversion of Mani Miner for the ZX81, though it was (of course) silent, and only had around twelve screens, as opposed to the Spectrum version's twenty.

For playing Spectrum games on the XBox, use either Spextrum or FuseX. To get the (legally downloadable, so no need for this message to be modded  biggrin.gif ) games, go to The World of Spectrum, at:

worldofspectrum.org

(best WWW site ever, if you ask me  love.gif )

Oh, and for Spectrum game cheats and walkthroughs, go to:

http://www.the-tipshop.co.uk/

(another great site). Regarding Manic Miner, remember that there were two published versions, the noticable only difference being some slight graphical changes and the copyright message (MM changed publisher, partway through it's commercial life, going from Bug-Byte to Software Projects). These two versions had different cheat codes, and I quote from the Tipshop's files:

"On the original Bug-Byte version, you have to type in the sequence of numbers '6031769' (reputed to be Matthew Smith's old phone number) and, while holding down the '6' key press combinations of keys '1' to '5' to move around. When Matthew moved to Software Projects, however, he the code to 'TYPEWRITER' - hence the code word for JSW. Again, once you've typed the code in, you hold down the '6' key and press combinations of keys '1' to '6'

6 Central Cavern
61 Cold Room
62 Menagerie
621 Uranium Workings
63 Eugene's Lair
631 Processing Plant
632 The Vat
6321 Kong Beast I
64 Amoebatrons I
641 Endorian Forest
642 Attack of the Mutant Telephones
6421 Kong Beast II
643 Ore Refinery
6431 Skylab Landing Bay
6432 The Bank
64321 The 16th Cavern
65 The Warehouse
651 Amoebatrons II
652 Solar Power Generator
6521 Final Barrier"

So start the game, then type in either "6031769" or "TYPEWRITER", then hold down the combination of keys listed above for each screen, i.e. [6]+[4]+[3]+[2] to go straight to the screen "The Bank". i don't know how you can do this in the emulators though (Spextrum does have a virtual keyboad, so maybe you can, I don't know if FuseX has a virtual keyboard), it's hard enough on an emulator on the PC, as many PC keyboards can't recognise more than three keys at once. Anyway, regardless of whether you can get the cheat working or not on an emulator, it's still a first class game. There are also a lot of unofficial rewrites of Manic Miner (and Jet Set Willy) for the Spectrum, available for free download, see:

http://www.geocities...willy/list.html

for a complete list.

Telengard, Lords of Midnight is a ZX Spectrum game, also available from World of Spectrum, as is it's sequel, Doomdark's Revenge. Have fun!

hi!
Congatulations for the emu.
I have 3 requests which will make the emu easier to be used (and I think it is fairly easy to implement)

1)an open file dialog so we do not have to remember the rom name and type the load "" sequence with the virtual keyboard
2)support for zippes files
3)subdirs (in order to keep the roma alphabetically)

and a question (which I will try anyway when I go home).Does the emu support the .p files?

Thanx in aadvance!
