Help! Sega Cd File Conversions Bin/cue To Iso/mp3/cue
« on: December 12, 2005, 11:20:00 AM »

Hey guys, I keep all my Sega CD isos on my Xbox hard drive for use with Xport's latest Genesis/Sega CD emulator (NeoGenesis v16?).  I have some games in iso/mp3 format (just a few) and some in bin/cue format (the majority).  Both work perfectly.  My problem is that the bin/cue games are sucking up a crapload of space on my hard drive.  I want to convert those to iso/mp3/cue desperately, but I don't know how.  I've scoured these forums, google searched, looked for a convert util (that converts the bin to iso and mp3 as well, not just to an iso), and to no avail.  Certainly someone here knows how to do it.  I don't care if the sound quality suffers a bit.  It's worth the space trade off.  Please help!

You could always just burn the bin/cues to CD-RW and then re-rip to ISO/MP3 format.  CDDISSECT is a good tool for dumping discs into ISO/MP3/CUE format.  But it can be picky with certain drives... so if it doesn't work then you may try Nero.  Nero has a very handy funtion called "Save Tracks" (Extras -> Save Tracks).  There you can save the individual tracks (data as ISO and audio as MP3).

Also, you don't even need the CUE with NeoGenesis if your tracks are named correctly.  For example my Sonic CD tracks are named like this:

Sonic CD.iso
Sonic CD 02.mp3
Sonic CD 03.mp3
etc...

Using that format you can launch the the game from the ISO and the music tracks will still work.  Anyway, I usually use Nero to dump tracks and use CDDISSECT to create the CUEs.

wow, googling mostly turns up morons on discussion forums talking about how using the MP3/ISO format is "disgusting" and "indefensible", which is about as retarded as people who say that "all mp3s sound horrible and i can instantly tell the difference!!!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
god i hate stupid people...
anyways, maybe WinISO is the app you want, as it can open and work on BIN/CUE files. i'm not clear if it can handle the extraction of audio to .wav, and i know it can't do mp3 conversion. my solution for the audio would be to use a virtual drive like Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools, then use the mp3 audio conversion utility of your choosing (there are about a million of them out there...)
