Just click the right analog stick button while in a game to bring up the options menu.  From there you can exit the game or save state.  Not sure if there is a guide anywhere and the emulator itself doesn't come with a good "Read Me" file that explains everything, but most of the options should be easy to figure out.

Thanks!  Thumbclick works good.

Only other thing I'd like to figure out is if I can share my PC's HD (which works fine in XBMC)... I also notice down on the bottom it says IPS: None (or something like that), I'm wondering what that's all about.

Another thing I can't figure out, and I've tried pushing all the buttons (I think).  In the list of games, I can press yellow to add a game to favirotes.  I'm hoping there's a way to access a list of my favirotes or something?  Or what is favirotes for?

I'm not sure if there is any way to browse ROMS on your PC or not.  I know the various Xport emulators support this feature, but I'm not sure about xSNES9x.  I store all mine on the XBox HDD, so I haven't tried to do that.  Someone else might know for sure.

IPS is a type of patch.  Some games have patches to change the language to English or to apply new graphics... those sorts of things.  There are two ways to use these patches.  One, you can use a program like LunarIPS to permantly apply the patch to a ROM. Or, two, xSNES9x  can apply the patch as it loads the ROM... but the ROM itself isn't changed, just the copy loaded into memory.  If you don't have one already, you just need to make a folder called "IPS" in the xSNES9x install directory and put any IPS patches you want to use in there.  Then when you are at the game selection screen hit "Start" to bring up the main menu.  In the main menu you will see an option called "IPS Browser".  When you select that option you will be shown a list of IPS patches in your IPS folder.  Select the one you want to use and then exit back out to the game select screen.  Now instead of saying "IPS=none" it should have your patch listed.  Select the game you want to run and it will use that patch when it loads the game.

As for the favorites, when you hit "Start" to bring up the main menu you will also see an option that says "Favorites Browser".  All the games you added to your favorites will be listed there.

Sweet, got it figured out, the start button was what I needed to know.  And thanks for the explanation of IPS.  Games are small enough, I'm not too concerned about SMB sharing anyway.

Here's the weird thing... at first I thought you were wrong... cuz if I push 'start' on my el-cheapo MadCatz controller in the main xsnes9x screen, nothing happens at all.  There's nothing wrong with the start button itself tho, it works fine in everything else (including within the SNES games).  Before I came back and posted you were crazy tho, I figured I'd try with my old official big MS controller.  Sure enough, if I plug it in as controller 1, it works.  (If I leave it as controller 2, the start button works, but that seems to be the only button that works).

Weird & annoying, I guess I should buy one of the real MS small controllers if I want the best of both worlds.  The version of flashbios on my x3 chip only works with the MS controller too, so maybe it's related.

I believe that the following query belongs in this very thread.

Thing is, I would like to learn how to backup save states from the X-Box. I had some decent progress on one of my RPG games, and I would like to move the file to my laptop, unfortunately, I cannot seem to locate the save file, or the save state files.

Is it even possible to extract xSnes9x save states and save files from the XBOX and then access them through conversion on the PC?

xSNES9x stores all its saves here: E:\TDATA\0fffdaed\

I haven't tried transferring them to the PC version, so I can't answer that one for sure.  Just give it a shot and see.
