Using Save States From Xboyadvance -> Visualboyadvance
« on: November 26, 2005, 11:52:00 PM »

Okay, I'm trying to use my XBoyAdvance saved games on its PC equivalent, VisualBoyAdvance. But, the XBoyAdvance uses a different file format. Here's an example of the Xbox saved games:

CODE
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.sav
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.sp0
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.sp1
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.sp2
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.sp3
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.st0
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.st1
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.st2
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.st3
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls.stg

But, VisualBoyAdvance's saved games look like this:

CODE
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls1.sgm
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls2.sgm
Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls3.sgm
etc..

I tried simply renaming XBoyAdvance's saved games files and loading them in VisualBoyAdvance, but it either 1) gave me an error "Unsupported VisualBoyAdvance save game version 1196314761" or 2) would not load any video but just play scratchy sound.

Sooo.. is there any possible way to convert these saved files, because I can't bring my Xbox to college but I still want to play my Final Fantasy saved games without starting over sad.gif Thanks for any help!

Try copying the save file and not the save states. It is the one with the .sav extension. Save files are more likely to work than the save states.

I was able to do it with VisualBoyAdvance-1.8.0-beta3. I copied the .st0 - .st9 files from the xbox (the savestate files), then renamed the savestate I wanted to use to .sgm.

I then loaded the savestate in VisualBoyAdvance, it crackled and the graphics went bad for about 3-6 seconds or so then my savestate loaded perfectly with no problems.

Also I copied the .sav file in the same directory as the rom and it loaded the data fine.

Hope this helps!
