Fbaxxx & Kawa-x Don't Work
« on: November 13, 2005, 08:51:00 PM »

I've tried so far 5 versions of fbaxxx from xbins, and so far all five of them refuse to load. I get the load screen, but then the system just restarts, and goes back into unleashx dashboard. Everytime I deleted all files, and copied another version through ftp, but every time I get the same restart problem.

As for kawa-x, I can't get it to reconize any roms. I've edited the rompath.ini file, but it still doesn't work.

I have both installed on the F drive in F:\emus\fbaxxx and f:\emus\kawa-x

the roms are in f:\kawa-x\roms

my surreal64 and xsnes9x both work flawlessly, what am I doing wrong for kawa-x and fbaxxx?

currently I'm trying to get BDiamond_FBAxxx(20050320) to work.
Yes I do have a default.xbe
yes i do have neogeo.zip in the roms folder

I'm using xbox ver 1.0, with xenium ice, unleashx, 250gb maxtor.

you can't edit the rompath for kawa-x, its a known problem that will possibly never get fixed due to the author. so if you want kawa-x to work, the rompath should be left alone and must say D:\roms (the kawa-x roms folder in other words)

I don't have a D drive, so I guess kawa-x is out of the question for me.

But my fbaxxx, I've got it too boot up, and I can play cps1 and cps2 games, but neo geo games are a no go. I get some error message saying that the file is cuurrupt and that the game probably won't play.

Any ideas about that?

D: is a relative path define as the directory from which the default.xbe is launched.  So, yes, you have a D:.  Just put your ROMS in a folder named "roms" in the KawaX install directory.

As for FBAXXX, it says the file is corrupt?  That probably means you are getting a CRC error which means you have the wrong version of that particular ROM file.  FBAXXX usually comes with DAT files (if not it can generate its own anyway).  Load the DAT into a program like Romcenter (PC program) and use it to scan your ROMS.  Romcenter will tell you which files are wrong.

I can't seem to find any DAT files in my fbaxxx directory. And I don't understand how to use romcenter, is there a guide or faq to using romcenter? The ones I found so far only tell you what it does, not how to use it.

As for the kawa-x, I have the roms in a this folder

f:\kawa-x\roms

is that what I would put in the rompath.ini file?

or would I put

d:\kawa-x\roms

You would put d:\roms\.   Since the default.xbe file is launched from f:\kawa-x\, then the kawa-x folder becomes the root of D:.  This is true for nearly all XBox apps.  Now on most other emulators, substituting f:\kawa-x\roms for d:\roms\ would work, but KawaX has a bug that won't allow you to alter the ROM path at all.

As for the DAT files, if they are not in the install directory try looking in E:\TDATA\ somewhere... I forget the exact folder.  I'll check after I eat some dinner :)  Otherwise, there should be a "generate dats" option in the menu somewhere... then check those places again.

Once you have the DAT you just need to install Romcenter and then load the DAT using the button at the top that looks like a computer chip (next to the drop down box).  Then select the newly loaded DAT in the drop-down box.  Then right click in the left hand window and select "Open ROM path".  Then just choose a folder on your PC that has the ROM you want to select.  It will scan your ROMS and tell you what is wrong.  In some cases just the names of the files are wrong, in which case if can rename them for you.  On other cases you will have the wrong ROMS and it will tell you which ones you need ( it will tell you what CRCs to look for).

ok, sorry, but it seems I've screwed up on my kawa-x path in my earlier post.

its actually

f:\emus\kawa-x\roms

would I still keep the rom path as d:\roms in the rompath.ini?

as for the DAT files for fbaxxx, once I know where it is, I just copy it into my pc, and open it with romcenter right? What do I need romcenter to do the the DAT file though?

after I do whatever it is I have to do with romcenter and the DAT files, I just replace where they were in the TDATA folder right?

sorry for sounding like such a noob, I got into xbox modding rather late, I was actually forced into it since my xbox dvd drive broke down, and I'm too lazy to look for a place to buy a replacement.

Yeah, it would still be D:\roms\

Also, check this location for the DATS:  E:\TDATA\ffff0504\

If they aren't there see if there is an option in the emulator menu that says "generate dats" and then check there again and check the install directory.

As for Romcenter, you need to start up Romcenter first. At the top you will see a long drop down box.  On the right side of that box you will see an button with a computer chip icon on it.  Click that button and then select your DAT at the next screen (FBAXXX generates 2 DATS files, one for CLRMAMEPRo and one for Romcenter... make sure you are using the Romcenter DAT).  Then exit out of that screen and back to the main screen.  Then select the DAT file you just loaded in the drop down box.

Then right mouse click in the left hand window and select "Add Rom path".  Then select the folder on your PC that has some ROMS you want to check.  Romcenter will then scan that folder and tell you what is wrong, if anything, with the ROMs you had it scan.

Some of my roms says cannot be fixed in romcenter, but they work fine on the PC using neorage. Do I just have the wrong version of the roms or something?

No matter how I fix them with rom center, some files still are red, and romcenter says are missing. Is there anyway to fix this?

Even though it's impossible to track down every single rom file inside every zipped rom set, it's nevertheless quite easy to get working versions of every playable game up in one clone or another.  Try playing what you have and find out what games you're really missing out on, rather than what rom files.  Then try searching Google for the CRC32 string of those rom files you're missing and use Romcenter to repair what's actually broken.

Also, I have to note that after using romcenter to repair my neo geo roms, they get categorized by fbaxxx as cps2 roms. Is that supposed to happen? I used the DAT file that was labeled romcenter, the name of the file was FBA-XXX Pro (RomCenter).dat
