FreakDave released a new version of Surreal64(info) XXX - a N64 emulator for Xbox (combining 1964, Project64 and UltraHLE) based on the original Surreal64 by oDD and Lantus.
From freakdave.xbox-scene.com:
* Changed: Launchdata is not needed anymore
* Changed: Video plugins are now chosen after the emulator has been selected
* Changed: Pagesize is now 256k
* Changed: Rom is now entirely loaded into ram (only for 128Mb users)
* Changed: Removed Enable/Disable Controller option from submenu (Change it in the launcher)
* Changed: Shortcut for changing Paks : Hold both triggers and press left thumbstick
* Changed: Project64 and 1964 debug infos, now telling which emu is running
* Fixed: Rewrote CD/DVD detection code (tested and working)
* Fixed: Rom size was shown incorrectly
* Fixed: Bug in Basic Audio plugin
* Added: New and optimized VMM code (slight speed increase and maybe will fix crashes when going to ingamemenu)
* Added: Skin selection menu
* Added: Rom selection menu can now be controlled faster by D-PAD - Left Stick

There's no difference between this and the one in that other thread about surreal xxx 5 right? Majora's mask runs slow again just like the old surreal xxx versions (1 - 2 fps, no video). I'm not sure if there are other games that have become broken in the process. Oh well, maybe I'll stick to beta 4 first and wait for a beta 5 I guess.

hi. two questions about this new version.

1.does this version work well with zipped roms the old version i had didn't seem to recognise them for some reason and i had to burn two dvds with all the roms :(

2.does this version run patched roms or do all the roms need to be virgin roms. the old version i have seems to not recognise them cos the emu looks for the rom header. you can try to run the roms but wwf no mercy cracked would not work for some reason.

would be no problem getting the virgin roms but all my protected games were cracked for use with my doctor v64 backup unit.

any help would bve great. thanks.

You have always been able to use patched ROMS, you just need to add them to the INI file.  Here is what you need to do...

First, get a program like Tool 64.  Then open up the ROM you want to add in Tool 64 and then select the "Rom properties" button at the top.  It will give you some information about the ROM.  The bits of information you need are the ROM Name, Region, and CRC1.  Write these down.

Next, open up the Surreal.ini file.  You will see game listings that look like this:

The numbers at the top are the CRC1.  Some files have more than one so that the emulator can recogize multiple versions of the ROM.  The number at the end (C:4A) is the region code (4A is Japan in this case).   "Game Name" is the ROM name given to you by Tool 64.  If you are wanting to add a game that is already in the list then you just need to add its CRC1 to the list.  Like this:

Then go the Media\Boxart folder and add the CRC1 to the correct box art png file in the same manner.  

If it's totally new game, then just copy the format above and put in the correct information and then, if you have it, make a new box art for it and give the image file the same name as the CRC1.

I read that, I was asking if there is any difference in the one I downloaded weeks ago, because it seems to be 4.9 also.
WIP, I was asking if this had any changes to the 4.9 I downloaded.

I'm afraid there's no difference between this and that other one posted a week or two ago. They both have the super slowdown bug in majora's mask, so I'm guessing they're just the same.
