Mamedox V1.1 Questions
« on: October 28, 2005, 11:10:00 AM »

hi. i've been using an old version of mameox and i think it's great but would like to upgrade and i'm unsure of a few things.
first thing is what version romset does it use? also is the compatability as good as in say mameox v0.72.b which i have been using. 0.72b is good all in all there are some games not running escape from planet of the robot monsters for one. so i also use mamex v6 for this and some other games.
i was hoping that i could still run mameox v0.72.b on my xbox as well as mamedox v1.1 in case of compatability issues.  horses for courses so to speak.
is it possible to run both mameox and mamedox as i heard if you update mameox you can't use an older version. and mamedox is a mameox hack so may have same problem :(
maybe theres a way around this by editing the ini file or something as then the emus would install config files and such to different directorys on xbox hd allowing both emu versions to be booted so the midway games can still be played on v0.72.b and so on.
i play all my emus off dvdr also so don't know if that would make a differance.
any help would be great would love to try this out without maybe messing the old mameox up
cheers.
bye.

Mamedox V1.1 Questions
« Reply #1 on: October 28, 2005, 12:09:00 PM »

Hi there...I don't seem to be so good at writing tutorial-type posts, so I'll just ramble off some things I've learned in my great MAME exodus to the XBox.  The most recent versions of MAMEdOX and MAMEOX use the MAME ROM set version 0.84, while the one you're using wants an earlier version.  It would be possible to use both MAMEOX and MAMEdOX for different ROM sets since they store their config files in different areas.  MAMEOX is in E:\TDATA\4d414d45, while MAMEdOX 1.1 uses E:\TDATA\4d414d46.

Now, as to "version 0.84" of the MAME rom set, you'll need to use a program named clrmamepro or one named romcenter, along with the .DAT files that come with MAMEdOX or your other chosen MAME, to upgrade/downgrade your rom sets to that version.  The version you're currently using could probably run a great many more games if the roms were configured in this way.  And if you configure a 0.72 (or is it 0.79?  not sure what the old MAMEOX is looking for) rom set along with a 0.84 in different directories, you could use the old MAMEOX for older-style emulation (worse sound but faster in some cases) and MAMEdOX 1.1 as your launcher for your 0.84 collection.  Phew!

Sounds good...if you've got access to the full set though, you're looking at burning more than one DVD...thing's big.

OK MAMEdOX 1.1 uses romset 0.84 mainly but  stuff like trio and progear of corse use 0.94 or when ever they where released, also all latest Neo Geo games use KAWAK 1.52.

Trust me that is exact :)

Mamedox V1.1 Questions
« Reply #6 on: October 31, 2005, 11:35:00 AM »

hi. yeah i'm getting my 0.84 romset soon clrmame verified aswell so thats cool. one thing i was wondering is how well does mamedox v1.1 run off a dvd+r dual layer disk? using dual layer would alllow me to put the emu and roms all on one disk if it works ok. and i'm not planning on running any hd chd games so that should save some space.
only problem then is the file limit per directory, the xbox does have a file limit system so i've heard :(
what i'm wondering is what is the exact limit per dir and is there a way around this? i don't know if i can use more than one roms dir because there don't seem to be a ini file which comes with mamedox which i could edit and point to more than one roms folder.
i heard the limit was 4000 files or so but i'm not sure the exact limit.
any help with any of my questions would be great guys. thanks for the help so far it's much appreciated :)
bye.

MAMEDoX 1.5 Front end mod

******OK BETA ******should make your front end tider and easier to use, copy over exsisting MAMEdoX files with stuff from these files and it will be converted. Ill need feedback on this for it go any further, take care

http://www.thraxen.com/BritneysPAIRS/Frontend.rar

as you might have known or not I was a main dev of mamedoX this is just a tidyup of front end no roms will be changed. Putting on 4000 roms is silly lots dont work or run slow. By the way this will limit your options in mamedOX but make it easier to select roms and more user freindly. Try it if you want

Mamedox V1.1 Questions
« Reply #8 on: October 31, 2005, 06:14:00 PM »

Hi how does the frontend limit one's selection?  Will it limit one's options to your list of best MAMEdOX roms?  While your list covers a very broad base of highly playable and enjoyable games, those games playable and enjoyable with MAMEdOX 1.1 by no means are limited to these.  Just found The Combatribes in my list the other day...been waiting to put some quarters into that bad boy again for about 13 years now.  Makes Double Dragon seem like ginger beer.  Or is this frontend more like a new skin?  Maybe I should just check it out for myself.  But for those new to MAME on the XBox, use BritneyPAIRS' list as a great guide, but be sure to seek out your personal favorites yourself from amongst those missing.  There are plenty more that are most chron.

Mamedox V1.1 Questions
« Reply #9 on: October 31, 2005, 07:17:00 PM »

man it doesnt effect what games you have on it I didnt touch the back end it makes selected games easier as keys are layed out better and pointless stff was moved away from the user and into options. All roms work ecatly like MamedoX although ill be releasing a backend soon as well and haveed a few roms etc. If you dont trust me you should be using MAMEOX 0.84b3 not mamedoX :) that list was for reference because 6000 full rom set is silly IMO

Im moving away from this thread now ill start one as this is for something else

Not like "limiting [my] options in MAMEdOX" coupled with an abbreviated list of MAME roms was the frontend's introduction.

Mamedox V1.1 Questions
« Reply #11 on: October 31, 2005, 08:21:00 PM »

sorry but link was for all to try and you didnt try it and commented, I know this is the wrong forum and I mixed 2 questions. I believe in simplisity for the interface and this is why B was added to turn off and on favorites and display them in yellow, and adding a  filiter for all games/favs. But it had become cluttered with to many options IMO on the front page so I tidied it up, if you want to use mamedOX 1.1 thats fine this is a small patch for it and just a sample of the new one to come, if I get suitble feedback from people that have tried and can come up with real world solutions to the interface.

Anyway I am sorry for pevious stuff, good luck with with Rom etc
anyone can PM me if they want DATS or specifics or can help to make mamedoX better (eg source mods etc)
