Psx Emulator Question(s)
« on: August 15, 2005, 04:59:00 PM »

OK, first off I know this is going to be like a total newbie question and if this is answered somewhere else please point me in the right direction for i have yet to find them. So having said that here goes. I have EvoX on my box installed with Slayers AutoInstaller 2.6 so that should cover what software is on my box. I also have Castlevania Symphony that i would like to play on here, however i am so stinking lost that its not even funny. Ive read about having to have a bios (SCPH1001.bin) installed in the bios folder for the PSX emulator. Well, i found that and burned it to a disc only to be stumped at finding a way to get in in that directory with the software that is installed on my box. The game is copied on the box with software that was installed with the autoinstaller but this may not be right from what ive read about having to copy the game and make a .bin file or .iso. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and please forgive the newbie questions for I know my way around a PC fairly well but im new to the XBOX mod scene. Thanks.

Update, I have gotten the SCPH1001.bin file copied into the emu's BIOS folder. Now just to figure out how to get the game to play, I copied it onto the hardrive with the DVD2XBOX program but nothing i try successfully launches the game

It sounds like you've figured out how to ftp to your xbox - if not you'll need to read some tuts. Download alcohol 120% or cdrwin. These will create an image of your psx game in bin/cue format. All you need to do is put your game in your pc, run the program, extract the image and ftp it to your roms folder in pcsxbox and you're set.

Ok, got the game copied to the ROMS folder and the CD's folder in the emulators directory. I start the emulator and can see every file from the game but cant find one that will launch the game. Ive tried several and the screen just goes black on some and tends to lock down. I know this is prolly simple and im gonna kick myself when i get it.

Not quite sure what kind of image Nero gave you, but several different types work. Just select the largest file and you should be good. Once you're up and running you'll want to check the pcsxbox compatibility list for optimum game settings if you haven't already.

PCSXBox uses disc images, not copies burned from the disc images. In other words, you should just have maybe two to four files.  If you have system.cnf and SLPSxxx.xx SLUSxxx.xx or something similar, you aren't using the image files. (x being numbers).

yeah i know it uses image files... i've been using it for multiple games... i want to free up space on my xbox's HD and wanted to know if i could burn the images onto a CD so i could use it with the emulator (sort of like when you put a game into the Xbox and it boots right away... without the booting part.) would i burn the image onto the cd as an image or as data?

Off topic.  Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was one of my favorite ps1 games back in the day.

For ANYTHING to be read in the xbox, you need the disc to be burnt as an xbox iso (aside from dvds and music cd's). What i do is save the root psxbox folder on my compy comp. Then i put in about 6-7 ps1 games. Turn THAT into a xiso. Pop it in my xbox. Play it. Yum.

What you need to do is rip the game into BIN/CUE format on your PC.  Then burn those two files as data files onto a CDRW or DVD.  In other words, don't select the CUE sheet and have your burning program use that to burn the BIN, just use your burning program to make a data disc and put those two files on the disc.  Then you can copy those two files off the disc onto your XBox HDD.  So when you are finished you should have the BIN and CUE files on your XBox HDD.  Then just select the BIN file to play the game.  Actually, I'm not even sure the CUE file needs to be on there, but I always put both anyway.

And if possible, figure out how to FTP to your XBox.  It makes life much easier.  Then you can skip the whole process of burning data discs and then ripping them to the XBox HDD.

OK, i can follow that sounds easy enough. What, however, do you suggest to use to rip the image into a .bin and a .cue file? Any program suggestions? And I take it those two files need to be put into the games folder under that emulator correct? Does the bios file need to be in the same folder cause right now I have it in the BIOS folder for the pcsxbox emulator? Thanks again for all the advice!! Oh and I will for sure figure out how to FTP into my box, need to get a router first, all I have right now is just a hub!!

Use Cdrwin or Alcohol. also use THIS to network your xbox, you don't need a router, you could use a switch/hub. leave the bios where you have it.
