Fceultrax Skin
« on: April 19, 2005, 01:53:00 AM »

Made up a skin for Xports FCE Ultra X. Sort of in the same vein as my surreal xxx skin, but not really. All menus have been skinned, all graphics original except for the characters on the main menu and the images of nintendo carts in the game select screen.

Download:HERE

Previews:

Intro Screen-
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/emuloadbkg.png)

Main Menu-
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/mainmenubkg.png)

Game Select Screen-
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/selectbkg.png)

Configuration Screen-
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/othermenubkg.png)

Loading ROM Screen-
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/gameloadbkg.png)

I'll probably do a skin for xsnes9x too, it'll be much easier to skin than xports emus as there aren't near as many screens. No idea when I'll get around to it though.

Comments and suggestions appreciated/welcomed

I hate to say it but i think that you are missing the point here. What makes this skin lock NES, except for the cartridges?. i would prefer that a NES skin reminds of those good old days with 8 bit graphic this is way to modern to be a nes skin if you ask me. My opinion is that u shuld have sticked to 16 colors (of a palett of 52) that was the max color for the NES and skipped the new nintendo images and copied the characters out from the NES games by using an emulator on your computer and the printscreen function.

Buy the way your skin for Surreal XXX is a great pice of art, thanx

I see your point, but the art on NES game catridges doesn't look like you describe.   For example, look at his picture of racoon Mario and then look at racoon Mario on the SMB3 game cart.  They look pretty much the same.  For that reason I think this look still works.

Well, this skin doesn't look bad, but i think the original fits the NES better. IMO the Title would be good for.....well, some sort of multi Nintendo machines emus (MNME), but that won't happen. It would look better, if it "evolved" the Original SMB Mario to the SMB3 Mario.

Game select screen: The only thing that's NESish is the Mario in front, as you can clearly tell its from SMB3 (the only game that had the beaver or whatever thingy), but I would prefer it, if it had real NES graphics.

and Generaly: the backround! The stars are just too generic. Something more NES specific would be nice.

The only thing that seems absolutelly perfect is the Config screen.

This is all meant to be constructive criticism, so you can improve the skin.

Not for nothing but I think this skin KILLS the current FCEultra (default) skin.

I really like, I'm not sure if I'll use it since I love the SMB3 skin that I currently use, So many good memories of that game, but I really think it is a beautifully made skin.

I know what you're saying, you have no idea how many backgrounds I went through for the main menu before deciding on this one. Here's another go around, with some of the suggestions put in place...

Skin Name:FCEUltraX-neverwill-classic
Download: HERE

Previews-

Intro Screen-Mario 1 morphing into Mario 3:
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/emuloadbkgcopy.jpg)

Main Menu Classic:
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/mainmenubkgcopy.jpg)

Game Select Screen Classic:

Loading Screen Classic:
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v459/neverwill/c1c229d9.png)

Any other images have remained the same (config screen).

Constructive criticism is awesome. Better, worse? Comments appreciated. Both versions of the skins are available for download, I didn't update the file, I made a new post for the classic version.

Well, it definatelly looks better (will find its way to my box!). Not yet perfect, but I can't put my finger on it.....

EDIT: I am not sure i you did this on purpose, but the config screen is missing in the classic version. I'll download the old one again, and just copy that one over.

Now, all I have to find is some better music :)

EDIT2: i think I found the thing that's bugging me with that one. It's just something minor (VERY minor in fact), so not actualy worth a proper fix. On the "old" one, you could see more from the classical Mario on the splash, in the classic version, the new one almoust overblends the SMB character. This is very minor indeed, as it's "just" the splashscreen, and you can still recognize the SMB Mario as such.

Great work! Hope to see some nice skins for other emus soon :D

thank you

Whoops....  I'll re-upload the file, thanks for spotting that.

Yeah, I just snagged the music from the default skin. The File at xbox-skins.net has been edited so that it has the config screen now.

Edit...again...-------

I'm gonna go insane haha, I must be on crack or something. Anyway, the preview pics that will appear on xbox-skins.net and allxbox skins aren't the proper ones. They aren't much different, but they don't contain the fire ball throwing plants in the menu, the background I posted here for the classic version is the one that's in the zip. Just so there's no confusion (even thought it's a small, probably almost unnoticable thing haha)
