Last month's Retro Gamer had an article on (often misunderstood it would seem) Phillips CDi, and there was a small piece about a Windows-based emulator. Has there ever been talk of one being ported over for the X-Box? I have access to a few CDi ROMs (though support isn't great, always improving i'm told) so i wouldn't mind giving them a spin on the X-Box if i can.

Atari 2600 - Z26X (help)
Better compatibility than Stella, still lacks the save state support, but not like you'll really need that anyway

As of v5, you can now save states (and perform rewinds) in Z26X.

Fixed.  Feel free to submit any changes you would like in the descriptions of any of your ports.

Lucky n Wild is emulated in Xbox port of mame (check Mameox128) but is very slow (but maybe with frame skip you can play. As for Osman or Canon Dancer i relly wish that this game be added in some soon release of new version of Mameox128 (as driver to Data East games - Night Slasher , Rogha Armor Formation and rest of Raiden Fighters)

I'm arcade player so for me Mame128plus is the best as it covers most of good arcade titles biggrin.gif

any eta on surreal 64 2.0 ?

its strange, i updated from 1.0 to the lastest xxx beta. The 720p is very cool but most games play slower (mario kart start is terrible but super smash is better)
what is the best surreal 64 version at this time?

Haha... I think the ETA is 'never' at this point.  The main guy working on it disappeared long ago.  It's a shame too because the early screen shots of v2 that were shown looked promising.

The best version of Surreal is a tricky question and may in fact be the most debated "best version" of any emulator.   A lot of people think that Surreal FDB v4 is the best version.  I think this may indeed be true for people with 64 MB XBoxs.   Surreal XXX b4.95 is also popular and adds in some additional Rice plug-in options, but it also seems to introduce some slow-down on 64 MB XBoxs.

For example, at the start of a race in Mario Kart... when the light hits green sometimes the game stutters for a few seconds, especially if you got the boost.  There is more stuttering in Surreal XXX than there is in Surreal FDB.  BUT this only applies to standard 64 MB XBoxs.   I have a 128 MB XBox and it does not stutter at the start of a race.

There are a few people that even prefer Surreal v1 because they feel it's the most stable.

Here's my opinion:

If you have a 64 MB Xbox then Surreal FDB v4 is likely your best option.  It will run more smoothly than Surreal XXX b4.95.

If you have a 128 MB XBox I think Surreal XXX b4.95 is the clear winner.  You won't have the slowdown introduced by Surreal XX on 64 MB XBoxs and you will get the advantage of using newer plugins... which do fix some graphical problems in some games.

Excellent list! Very good job. I just recently came across emulation on xbox so I'm now gathering the best sources to set it all up on my xbox. This list offcourse is a big time-saver.

Does anybody know if there is also a list of which emulators support things like:
- ZIP or other archive support
- SMB support to play roms from network
- Relax (XNS) support for what I understand all Xport Emulators to play roms from network
- Direct ROM play support. The emu can be started along with a rom filename so the rom starts instantly

I'm curious for this all because when I searched for what was the best setup for emulation on the xbox I came across Retro-X as the best rom/emu front-end launcher. Since I have my whole rom collection on my server on the network it would be nice to pick as much emu's that support this as possible so I don't have to copy all roms over to the xbox. There's also a topic which gets updated with new features, bug reports, feature requests, etc.

Most of Xports emulators can do all of that. ZsnexBox does all of that except SMB.
