Surreal64 Xxx Beta 3 Bugs/issues
« Reply #120 on: April 20, 2005, 05:04:00 PM »

Hi Guys,
i also can confirm the "memory leak" problem. When starting Mario 64 for example the debug msg says i have about 14MB ram left. When playing the memory decreases and decreases - when loading a state, sometime i got more ram left as before, but overall my ram runs out => crash. My personal workaround for this problem is, quitting to surreal list and restart the rom. But this is a little bit annoying...

With Bajo Kazooie i can't play more than 10min sad.gif I know its a free project and we all have no rights to request something, but ppppllllzzzz fix it :-)

Playing the new version of Surreal beta 3.
Loving it bigtime.

Am wondering from the old version it used to highlight the emulator
best suited to the rom. It had a star above the name.
Now there isn't that as far as I can see?

Is this correct?
Is this gone for good? Or is it an option you can turn on?

Cheers.

Hi,

i really wonder about all your memory issues. I got "only" a 64MB Box, and Banjo and Kazooie runs just fine for me with the standard settings and the basic audio plug in.

I experienced most problems i had (being not able to start a game) were solved by choosing the basic audio instead of jttl plugin.

For Banjo Kazooie i had a game session with a friend of mine yesterday and and it did not stop emulating several hours.

So a.) it could be that the jttl plugins is kind of buggy?!

or  b.) the experimental 128MB support is buggy?!

So perhaps you 128MB People could try the basic audio to confirm that?

Hope it helps.

Justin

Hmm, that really a little bit strange - i mean this memory leak problem.

A lot of users have this problem, and complain here in the forum (hehe yeah, me too *g*) - but on other xboxes the memory keeps in a stable form, so they can play hours and hours.

How can this be ? The Xbox is not a PC, with different Operating Systems, Settings and/or Hardware components. Whats the difference between a xbox without this issue and the one without ?  Either the bios, or the dashboard from where you load surreal, or the settings in surreal can be different, am i right ?

Maybe im wrong, but i think the 64MB ram in all xboxes are the same - so this can't be the problem.

Yesterday i testet surreal with all kind of different settings, and my memory did always get lost - sometimes faster, sometimes slower but always sure sad.gif

Ain't nothing geting lost here. I don't keep track of it using the debug settings but I've played Mario Kart for hours and hours and even more hours (and some minutes and seconds)!

maybe the mem-leak has something to do with rom-size? mario kart has only 8mb, conker 64mb. perhaps for mario there is no "swap"-file needed, so there aren`t problems...hmmm

Well it could also be that because conker is so big it doesn't leave to much memory open while Mario Kart is a lot smaller and leaves a lot more memory open which would mean that it would take longer for Mario Kart to crash.

I don't know, i managed to get perfect dark (PAL) running OK on regular 64mb xbox with this version of Surreal XXX. It works FAR better then it used too on the previous version (PRE XXX).

Said before use these settings for optimal experience (once again credits do NOT go to me) :

''Perfect Dark is "near perfect", visually yes. Especially if you use my optimized settings: 1964, 4mb video, 10 dynarec, 2 paging.''

thanks a millions guys for releasing this surreal beta 3b, its the best yet, banjo tooie wouldnt run for me but i used the basic audio plugin and now it works, a little jerky but livable, smile.gif  one question i have is when i try to select specific settings for each game, the menu wont let me select it, am i doing something wrong?  but the way wipeout is fixed too, no more screaming speed, i also noticed that when i try to set the analogue stick sensitivity to - 30 percent it wont let me, ver beta 2 did, is this a bug? thanks again for this great work pop.gif

ps. when i click the right thumbstick and select savestate it freezes my xbox. also ive sorted the sensitivity issue, my bad,  rolleyes.gif
