Ok, thought I'd better step in here and resolve any confusion people may have with the MAMEdOX release.

Is MAMEdOX a hack of Mameox?.
Essentially, yes. It is not a new project. It builds on what Bendermike did in his Bendermameox releases. MAMEdOX is based on "Bendermameox 21.01.05" and includes all his updates.

Can you update the core to 0.93?
This is the biggy. It's not impossible, it's just proven really difficult. As mentioned earier, Yoshi has had a go at updating the core as have a couple of others, but the input system in MAME 0.85 onwards saw a huge update, meaning a rewrite of the input code in mameox. I'm confident we'll eventually see a core update, but when we'll see it is another matter.

Why are there 3 people working on MAMEdOX?.
Myself and HK$ coded all the updates. BritneysPAIRS helped with the support files and skinning. It's a joint effort.

Where can I find the release?.
As you may know, it's not on xbins. It was posted to a torrent site and posted to the relevant usenet newsgroups. (thanks to you-know-who for that wink.gif ) I'll sort out a cut-down release and ask Iriez about hosting it at xbins.

Can you add the new SPI/SEGA drivers? (Raiden Fighters 2 - 2000, Turbo Outrun etc.)
Believe me, I'd love to be able to play the new SPI and SEGA games on the xbox. As you all know, there's been some great improvements with these drivers in recent versions of MAME, but adding them to MAMEdOX is out of my scope as a programmer. Both myself and HK$ have admitted we're not expert programmers. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I've attempted to add these drivers, but the code updates are too numerous for me to implement. I really hope someone more experienced can look into adding the drivers in future.

Are the updated Lightgun fixes included?
As far as I know they aren't included, unless they were included with Bendermameox 21.01.05. I'll look into this. I don't have a lightgun myself, so I didn't think about checking this. Sorry about that.

The whole point of MAMEdOX was to tie up some loose ends in Mameox regarding the User Interface. There are no massive improvements over mameox, just fixes and updates that I thought would be neccessary. It's still the old MAME 0.84 core at the end of the day.

An more concise changelog follows...
-----------------------------------------------
Interface improvements/modifications

    * Added Back button to cycle through sort methods (by name, by manufacturer, by genre etc.)
The current sort mode is displayed at the top of the screen.
    * Fixed Screenshots aspect ratio in display modes.
    * Clones use screenshot from parent rom.
    * Favourite roms are displayed as a different colour (gold).
    * 'Show Favourites' filter now replaces 'filter disliked'.
    * Renamed some text in UI for accuracy.

New Drivers

    * MAME 0.92 driver added for Super Trio (suprtrio)

Extra Options

    * Soften and Flicker Filter are now configurable.
    * Ability to select whether clones use their own screenshot, or the screenshot from its parent rom.
    * "Force VMM" is set to 'off' by default, this is to enable the use of the new updated VM.txt
    * Miscellaneous Default options changed to be more user-friendly.

General Changes

    * Changed save game location (was 4d414d45 now 4d414d46.)
    * Changed save game icon.
    * Debug.log logging removed.
    * default skin updated to reflect UI changes.

Support Files

    * cheat.dat, hiscore.dat and new catver.ini added
    * samples and artwork added.
    * New optimised VM.txt.
    * New rom configs added to fix remapped keys.
    * updated DAT's for romcenter and clrmame (DAT's not 100% tested.)
-------------------------------------

Hope this clears things up a bit.

For anyone that's interested, I've set up a blog for mamedox at
http://mamedox.blogspot.com  See this for more info.

(note: there are NO xbe's or roms at this site.)

Thanks,
Ebsy.

tongue.gif We all know those will not run hehe. I also know that adding drivers and so on is not very easy, only trying to help. smile.gif

0.93 is the first one with big updates to sound and other stuff, so it has introduced some problems and bugs that the mame team and testers are fixing at the moment. So it's better to not use that one for now in my opinion. If you want to play raiden 2, or want to use a version to try adding that driver to MameoX, use the version 0.92 diff (codename wtv 2000 i think) they released before version 93 just for that game. smile.gif

Finally, if anyone can, upload to xbins or wtv a version of this project without the artwork, screens etc stuff. Without the extra stuff basically. It's easier for all people to download , find, and in my case to test and mess a little with it that way smile.gif

My favorites are not colored. I know how to make the rom into a favorite by pressing white, and choosing from disliked, strongly disliked, etc, etc. I went into options, and Colorize Favorites is set to Yes. Any ideas?

Can some one help me i have xbox v1.0, unleashx, 250gb drive and when mamedox run it crashes straight after the entry screen after pressing any keypad button. This also happened with bendermameox, i have removed the save files for both bendermameox and mamedox.

Dont sure what else to try, did anyone else have this problem with getting mamedox to run first time.

I have tried running the emulator with and without roms.

When mamedox runs it does create, the save directory and the system folder.
i.e. /E/TDATA/4d414d46/

Cheers

The screen shots take up about 40 meg (compressed)... what else is there that would have made it 70 meg...

I just feel im missing something big with it only being 12meg :) Im keen to get the rest - even if it does basically nothing...

The 'extras' included were the screenshots, samples and artwork. this made it ~120mb. you can get hold of these extras quite easily. :)

all i can say is this release looks SO SHARP on my 47" widescreen hi-def! :beer:
and it doesn't look too bad on my arcade cabinet, either.

i don't know if mameox had progressive scan or not.
