Samba Connection Flakiness
« on: February 03, 2005, 01:51:00 AM »

Here's the issue (long post ahead):

I have a linux file server (running samba 3.0.7) that I store my roms on. I have my xport emulators set to map to my rom share, and everything works fine for about 10 - 15 minutes. After that amount of time, if I try to load another rom, I am immediately kicked back to the menu, as if it couldn't find it. It seems to be dropping the connection, as I can no longer browse the share. The only way to reconnect it seems is to restart the emu. It never drops the connection in the middle of a game, though, only when go back to the menu and try to load a new one.

This has happened to me in fceultra, neogenesis, and pcsxbox. I'm fairly sure it's not a problem with my server, as XBMC never drops a connection, and neither do any of my other machines connected to it.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Also, xport emus seem to not like samba servers set up with 'security = user'. This is only a minor annoyance, though.

So this isn't just taken as a gripe fest, xport's emus are 99% l33tness  :D

I am experiencing a very similar issue. I can usually play 1 or 2 games, but when I go back to try another, nothing will load. Further, if I back out of the SMB share and then go back in, I don't see any of my ROMs listed. It is not until I restart the emulator that all my ROMs are listed again. Is this a problem with the emulator software, or my Samba configuration? (Samba seems to work fine on the rest of my network, including XBMC where I frequently use it to stream movies and music.)
