No matter how you put it, if there are two emulators of the same system they are competing.
It's pretty clear that you like to use just one emu for each system. So whenever a new emu comes out you obviously compare it to what you already have to make sure you're using the one that you feel is best. That's your competition and that's just fine.
People like myself, on the other hand, like to have as many emus as possible (on both the Xbox and PC) since I find each one interesting in a different way. So when a new one comes out, I add it to my collection and expand my choice. Comparing them in a competitive way completely defeats the point.
That is the difference between choice and competition. Different points of view. As I said, any competition is in the mind of the individual user.
