Surreal V2 will not emulate the N64 any longer, oDD recently told me V2 will in fact be an awesome NES emulator.

I can't wait for the updated Surreal 64 to be finished so hopefully i can play the Bomberman 64, Banjo tooie, and Zelda games right on the xbox along with many more games.

and what was wrong with the Zelda games in Surreal v1?
Just be sure tho change the sound plug-in, and you'll be fine.  And with freakdave's visual fixes, it looks even better.

Again i say : We dont need any N64 emulation!
lets do a comparison.

Mario (nes)
Mario (n64)
as you can see we allready have a mario game on nes, thus making N64 emulation quite obsolete!

Mario 2 & 3 Duckhunt? Metroid? Punchout? Final Fantasy 123?
the n64 does not have any of these!
Winner? Nes by a longshot!!

Castlevania 1,2,3?
Nes : yes all available on nes!
N64 : werent there like 2 or so? the winner is quite obvious here, but for the mentaly handicapped here it is in bold font : NES

Cool sonic pirate featuring mario wearing sneakers?
Nes : yes its available!
N64 : shame on you n64 hongkong pirate coders! where's my Sonic Adventure hack featuring mario?? lazy fuckers!!
winner : duh.. NINTENDOOOOO NES!

Fighting game where various well known Nintendo characters battle it out?
Nes : Yes its available!
N64 : I think there's one out.. but its probably not very good compared to the nes version.

Ducktales 1&2, Chip & Dale 1&2, Darkwing Duck ??
Nes : oh yes!!!!!!! (orgasm) all in 8 bit coop glory before people even heard of CS tactics..
N64 : boooooooooooh a loser is yooo!

Grand Theft Auto?
Nes : Yes
Pc : Yes
Xbox : Yes
DC : Yes
PS2 : Yes
N64 : ONCE AGAIN NO

Grande Winner and Sweetheart to all the ladies! : N.E.S.

Bit offtopic..

I had a look at the 1964 SourceForge page  - if it's really supposed to be published under the GNU General Public License, then I don't see how they can get away with not releasing the source to the latest 1964 version a year after releasing the executable.

Or am I simply misinformed? I hope so, as I too would like to see the 0.99 source at long last.

hopefully we will see surreal v2 in xmas...or maybe in the anniversary day.
and about the nes emulation.

i know the greatness of nes ... i love nes , i found it very artistic (the sprites and the use of colors)...

but the conversation here its not about if we need it or not.

its about a guy who wants surreal v2...and is waiting for new pics...or maybe a news update. like many of us.

i want v2 too.

so hopefully i can play the Bomberman 64

i dont know how... (maybe someone knows how to do this)
a cousin launched surreal in my xbox...and he was playing bomberman 64...(not the 2nd) without glitches...and story mode, multiplayer...

then i rebooted the xbox...tryied bomberman again...and didnt work?

anything to do with the cache?

V2 is in the works and will be out soon (enough). I'm sorry it wasn't out sooner, doing my final year at university and now starting work has taken most of my time up. Thanks for being patient.

Yes what they are doing is against the the GPL and against Sourceforge's terms of use. But we can't do anything, unfortunately. We just have to wait.

Zelda is very playable on surreal 1.0, I completed with very few problems really. I think people give surreal64 a bad press because they haven't used the original pc version of the emu's (Or only PJ64 wiith it's own built in plugins which aren't OS). N64 emulation is far from perfect on the pc to expect it from the xbox is unreasonable.

To me Surreal64 is the emu of the year on the xbox the fact that I can play zelda at all is a miracle nevermind complete it  inside an emulator on an xbox when the rom is the same size as 1/2 the xbox memory. The hours I've spent playing mario party and S&P are a testament to the original emu's and the porters.

What do you really think is going to be that different with surreal 2.0? N64 emulation has not come on that much iin the last year. Rice's 5.6.0 will be nice certainly (At last an almost perfect pilotwings) but that's going to be about it. The sources for 1964 .99 beta haven't been released so the coore won't be any faster (Passed a few optimisation oDD might be able to perform (Although performance is not the big issue in surreal64 it's the GFX plugin).

If you don't like the state of N64 emulation in the xbox scene then don't bother it's never going to be perfect 100% the xbox doesn't have the power and the emulators don't exist anyway. (that are perfect).

Something to bear in mind is the general consensus in the N64 emulation scene is a software gfx plugin is the only way to emulate everything and that would be too slow for todays fastest PC's so where does that leave the xbox.
