I can confirm that X Com 1 works great albeit a little slow.

DosXbox is the only way to play Xcom on the Xbox. It's my fav dos game and I was very happy to finally get it working.   biggrin.gif

what about a new version? dosbox 0.72 (incl. source) is already out... would set much more compatibility to ALL games?!

You'll have to tweak the control sensitivity, but Tie Fighter is playable on the box.

thx for fast answer, and now this thread is up again.
how fast would you say dosbox on xbox runs? like 486DX/33 or more like 386SX/25?

tie fighter was very fast on my original 486DX/2-66

I always have fun trying to see what will run on the Xbox in dosbox. After many different experiments I think it runs at a 386 level.

Civilization and Master of Orion run great, just as they did originally on my 386sx/25. What I have noticed is that around late 1993/early 1994 titles start to really have trouble running on the box. So then its a game by game basis....X-com and Tie Fighter run O.K., but SimCity 2000 is just about unplayable due to its slow speed. Master of Orion 2 is also comically bad since its initial menu scrolls into place so slow. The other problem is that I only played these later titles on my 486/DX4-100, so my speed expectation for these games might be a little steep. The most ambitious project I took on was trying to get Mechwarrior 2 to run. I got as far as having the movies play at full speed and configuring your mech, but the game always crashes when you try to play further.

It would be nice if we could get an updated dosbox ported because newer versions have addressed numerous issues and increased emulation speed.

EDIT - Just realized this post is really old! But anyways... maybe we'll get a better list!

Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers (MDF ISO)- Works about 95% with 3000 cycles or more (some lockups if under and sound stutters a little after 4000. The speed slows down quite a bit if you try to run it in VESA mode.

Flash Traffic - City of Angels (Full FMV game) (ISO)- Works great with all standard setting (3000 cycles, 8 meg etc...). Had a minor issue with the setup, after I came back to it claimed it could not find the files in the \OTHER directory. I reinstalled the game directly into the C:\ and it seems to work fine now.

The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Serrated Scalpel (BIN/CUE) - Works great so far under regular settings (3000 cycles etc). There is no sound in the very beginning titles (normal) and the character walks slow- but this is how the game was meant to be.

SPYCRAFT - The Great Game (ISO) - Just too slow no matter what I tried. Playable, but unbearable.

Any chance that anyone ever compared a Xbox Linux running DOSEMU to this port of DOSBox?

I know nothing of Linux, but several times over the years I've posted in the Xbox-scene Linux forum, asking if someone would be prepared to set up a Linux distribution that was optimized to run PC (Windows or DOS) games as well as possible, but no one ever did, sadly.

My dream is for someone to create a very light-weight Linux distro specifically for the Xbox with the sole purpose of running windows games under wine. Sadly, it looks like it will never happen.

Yes, it can play MIDI songs. Be sure that you have enabled some audio card in the configuration of the game (preferably the Soundblaster). If I remember correctly, it was enabled by default, but it's better if you check it.

I don't know "Taiwan karaoke". If the sound card is enabled, maybe the problem is in the program. If you can have access to the configuration needed for this game (IRQ port and so on) you can see if the configuration of the Soundblaster that Dosbox is emulating, is the same. Also, check if Taiwan karaoke uses filenames with asian characters (I guess that dosbox will not manage these files well).
