How To Properly Rename Your Console Roms.
« Reply #15 on: December 03, 2004, 04:12:00 PM »

Trying to transfer several GBA roms(1400-1800). This has given me some grief. To eliminate the numercal identifier and condense into an XBOX compatible filename, I unzipped a few into a folder and discovered there is more than one file associated with a GBA rom. Some with duplicate names but different sizes, "do you want to overwrite?' Uh, sure. Following the steps I get this error
Unable to open GoodGBA.db

Stats: 7108 entries, 251 redumps, 283 bad/overdumps
      1574 hacks/trainers/translations
[New Style Msgs, using SHA-1]
Scanning .\*.gba.agb.mb.bin.e+
You are missing 6289 of 6289 known Nintendo Gameboy Advance ROMS (V2.01)

From the message it appears I have a problem from the start.
And on another topic, is there a way to uncompress a group? Zip, rar and genius dont seem to have that function. Any insight would be appreciated.

When you say group I assume you mean a group of zip/rar files.

You can unzip the whole lot, just hold down left button on mouse and drag over the files or ctrl+A then right-click on the mouse, select extract files, all files go in to the same folder, or extract each archive to seperate folder. But you don't want that.

"I unzipped a few into a folder and discovered there is more than one file associated with a GBA rom."

I don't understand what you mean by this. Some zip files have more than one file in it like a .nfo file. They're opened with notepad/wordpad. The only file you want is the .gba file.

Make it easier for yourself by having file extensions on. Windows hides them by default. Go to folder options and uncheck 'hide file extensions'.

I've found out what the problem is. I've just tried it myself. It doesn't recognise any roms after 1400. I had a look at the date GoodGBA was last updated, 02/05/04, almost a year ago. Looks like we'll have to wait until the next update.

When I try to start GoodGUI, I get the following error.

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."

I tried downloading it again, same error. I even downloaded a different version from another site, didn't fix the problem. I know it has to be something on my side, I just don't know what. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

An updated frontend for Good Utilities, polarz's GoodGUI frontend does a great job. It supports all current Good utilities and is actively being updated. MS .NET Framework v1.1 or higher is required.

Did you install MS Net Framework?

All of my ROMs are extentionless, but snes9x reads them fine on the computer. However, xsnes9x does not see them. If I add a .smc extension, xsnes9x then sees them. Is there a program like Tool64 that would add the correct file extensions? I tried Snes9x Tool but it gave me an error when I extracted it and tried to run the program. Thanks.

Are there any other helpful threads floating around? I was thinking about making a general sticky that includes links to random tutorials posted here.

I'd like to think this one is pretty useful.
