Svc Port Vs. Svc Rom
« on: October 12, 2004, 06:23:00 AM »

I know this isnt generally the forum for game reviews, but this is a port of an emulated game.  So, I was just reading a review that basically tore SVC Chaos apart and, I was wondering...since this is an emulator forum and there are many Neo Geo fans... somebody must have played the port and can compare it to the Rom or even the arcade version.  I just find it hard to believe that when the game was ported it became significantly worse.

It wasnt really a good game to begin with..

other then that they look pretty similair, they changed the anouncers voice and maybe they upscaled the sprites or something but if they did i sure didnt notice.

...

they could have done so much more with capcom fighters.. its just saddening.

50 bones just seems like a lot for a port.  Maybe you are paying for Xbox Live support in there, but I dont play on Live.

I have read somewhere within X-S that SNK is also porting the metal slug games and samurai shodown 5?  Any new buzz on these?

yeah, $50 seems like a lot for this game, I just bought it out of support for the company.  I did the same thing when Ikaruga came out for the Gamecube, I had a burned copy for the Dreamcast but I bought a copy for GC.  I have much respect for Treasure.

anyhoo, getting off topic.....support.

Just think of it as spending $50 worth of quarters, that you would have used at the arcade that "used" to be near you, on all of the Metal Slug games that were released.

I have seen guilty gear xx and it is a beautiful looking game and has some great characters and game play.  Back to SNK though, I am a huge fan of most of the games I have played for the NEOGEO that they make and hope that this this trend in porting old games to new systems brings life to many more oldies but goodies.  They need work on their price points though tongue.gif

i prefer the port only because its got some xtras... like color changing, art gallery and the bosses are also playable from start just have to hold R trigger to get to them... the rom seemed kinda slow compared to the port i have both so if you have questions ask

True $50 seems like a lot for a neogeo port when most of the people in here have been playing these games on an xbox emulator for a long time already. Just think of it this way though if you acctually owned a neo-geo the games woul cost aroun $200 so $50 for the port sounds like a bargan in that case. I think the main appeal of these neo-geo ports is live support which is a really nice feature.

the port by far wins since the romset out is a bootleg release which is normally missing parts in the arcade version (like transparences and such) but to me its only right to compare this to the japanese ps2 version that was out almost a year ago but never got released to usa due to sony's prob with 2d games dry.gif

well one thing off bat between the 2 was the screen size, xbox version doesn't fully fit the screen yet ps2 version does and this was kinda annoying as you can see 1/4 or more of the character missing when knocked at end of either side, very strange why they did that

gfx wise, xbox has a slightly sharper edge (less of blocky look to say) but both were just about the same and the added effects to special moves that were done on ps2's version are in xbox's like fireballs and even earthquake's fart.

game option/extras, xbox wins as the ps2 version doesn't have color edit or an option to change languages (japanese only for ps2's) plus with live being added is a real nice touch tho a read there were probs with that but i'm sure its minor.

well i would agree that the announcer change wasn't that great but didn't bother me and in case you were wondering, ps2's has the same annoucer from the arcade since it being all in japanese.

overall, xbox version came best and beats the arcade version in my eye by adding the lil touches to moves and the extra options but i rather wish it was a $20 game.

on a side note to ppl mentioning gg isuka, how the hell can you actually like the game blink.gif  it tanked in the japanese arcades and its by far the worst of the series, adding a turn button is as worse as midway adding a 3D button to the god awful wargods.

Neo Geo could not do transparencies

The Neo-Geo creates a fake transparency-like effect by just filling every other pixel with colour. My own custom build of FBA-XXX plays SVC with fake transparencies, which I prefer. Does the port use fake or real transparency?

port uses real transparencies as does the arcade which is neogeo so -x- you are wrong.

transparencies are even in arcade version of kof2003 which a friend of mine owns and if you are one of those lucky ppl who got the alien dev emu and the proper kof2003 romset (the one that doesn't run in any other emu but the alien one) you can notice the transparencies off bat.

It has been discussed to death at Neo-Geo.com. No tranparencies on the Neo.
