Is the capabilty thread only for 1.0 US games?

nope, the compatibility thread(maintained by DeathX) is,AFAIK, for all N64 roms (if tested)

QUOTE
Just wondering if this new modified Surreal has lost anything that the 1.0 possessed? Compatibility, etc? To sum it up, is it without a doubt the best Surreal available for download?

It didn't lose anything at all.Compatibility should still be the same.
The main features of Surreal64 FDB :
- You now have the possibility to change the Flicker Filter (for a sharper/crisper picture) and the Soft Display Filter
- You now have the possibility to change the sensitivity of the thumbsticks

And there are still some things to come smile.gif
If that isn't an improvement...

I dont get any games to work. Rompath in the ini file is correct and I can see the games in the Surreal64 menu. But when i try to start 007 in any of the 3 emulators (they all should work on this game) the screen just gets black.

Same thing happens when i try to quit the Surreal64 program. Does anyone have a tip for me?`I would really like to play some of the N64 games.

Thx for any advice

How do you change the settings in surreal v2 fdb.  I cannot figure out how you change the settings on the joystick.

From the nfo file (included in the zip so I'm not too sure why people seem to have trouble figuring it out)

Sensitivity FAQ
------------------------
There are 3 values in 'Surreal.ini' which you can adjust.Surreal's default values are :
Default NPad Deadzone=8000
Default XPad Deadzone=0.24
Default XPad Summand=0.5

Default NPad Deadzone:
The lower the value of the deadzone, the more sensitive are your thumbsticks.
My advise is to start adjusting this value first. For 'fine-tuning' use the XPad Deadzone value.
Use 500 if you want a very sensitive thumbstick.
My favorite value is : 12000

Default XPad Deadzone:
The lower the value of the deadzone, the more sensitive are your thumbsticks.
Use it for fine-tuning only.
My favorite value is : 0.34

Default XPad Summand:
Use this value with care.Try 4.0 and you'll see the difference.
My favorite value is : 0.25

If you think you've found a decent value for a certain game, then share it on the X-S Emulation forums please.

Misc:
Don't try to change the values XOffset,YOffset,XStretch and YStretch,as they won't work in this release.
DO NOT DELETE THEM THOUGH !

So just load Surreal.ini in Notepad and tweak. There's a recommended value in this thread i think.
If not then might as well save you the trouble:
CODE
Default NPad Deadzone=2050
Default XPad Deadzone=0.24
Default XPad Summand=0.25

There are rom detection tools throughout the net.Search for Goodrom in google. The rest should be self-explanatory.

Does this release even work on a 5530?

I have a 5530, even have a modchip in it, but it just hangs at the load screen (from avalaunch).

Thanks in advance.

Hey Freakdave, any chance you could implement XPort-style "command-line parameters" to launch specific ROMs directly from a dashboard (the source is available with his emulators)?  I posted a feature request on SourceForge.net a while back.  See:

http://sourceforge.n...701&atid=587619

Does Surreal currently support Evox-style command-line parameters?  I only tried using UnleashX (which uses XPort's implementation) to launch the Default.xbe with a ROM specified, but that didn't work.  How does Surreal integrate the three emulators?  Does it launch the emulator XBE itself with the ROM specified via a command-line parameter?

I guess sometime this weekend I'll try lauching a particular emulator XBE from Evox and UnleashX (with a ROM specified) and see if it works, but ideally I would like to be able to link to the Default.xbe using UnleashX and have it automatically use the preferred emulator for the game and then return to the dashboard when exiting the game.

Once I obtain this new version, what is the correct method of upgrading my existing version of Surreal 64? By that I mean what folders should I overwrite/delete, including the TDATA/UDATA.

okay guys I deleted the copy of surreal from the xbox then copied over surreal 64 fdb v2 .

I then created a folder called roms under F:\Apps\Emulators\Surreal64.

I placed the rom mariokart64.7z in F:\Apps\Emulators\Surreal64\Roms

Then I renamed the rom path in surreal.ini on F: and E: to point to "F:\Apps\Emulators\Surreal64\Roms"

I then rebooted and launched surreal 64 during launch the screen flickers a bit then goes to the initial surreal 64 screen where there are menu option for settings , credit and quite with awhite mario hand over settings. This is as far as I get because my rom does not show up and I cannot move the hand.

What am I doing wrong???

I extracted the file to "F:\Apps\Emulators\Surreal64\Roms\MarioKart64" It gave me a bunch of .z64 files and I still get nothing

About Surreal64 FDB
---------------------------------
This is a modified version (FDB = freakdave's birthday release) of Surreal64 v1.0.

Changelog
-----------------
* Added: You can now change Surreal's Vertex Processing mode
* Added: You can now choose between 5 texture filter modes
* Added: Some credits smile.gif
* Fixed: Cleaned up some code

Misc
-------
* Full sourcecode is included

Vertex Processing / Texture filter FAQ
------------------------------------------------------------
You now have the possibility to change Surreal's VP mode.
Note that UltraHLE has its own graphics renderer and therefore its own entry.
Open Surreal.ini and search for these 2 entries:

Default UHLE Vertex Processing Mode=1
Default EMU64 Vertex Processing Mode=1

Valid modes are :
0 = Pure Device (don't use this setting unless you know what you're doing. Not recommended)
1 = Software Vertex Processing (this is Surreal's default setting.Recommended)
2 = Hardware Vertex Processing (games may run faster and even better (UltraHLE and Diddy Kong Racing) with this setting, but it may also cause graphical glitches in certain games. Not recommended)
3 = Mixed Vertex Processing (Specifies mixed (both software and hardware) vertex processing. Not recommended)

You now also have the possibility to choose between 5 different texture filter modes.
Note that UltraHLE has its own graphics renderer and therefore its own entry.
Open Surreal.ini and search for these 2 entries:

Default UHLE Texturefilter=2
Default EMU64 Texturefilter=2

Valid modes are :
0 = This mode does NOT work as it's only used for Mip Mapping.I've added it only for the sake of completeness.
1 = Point Filtering (Fast but low quality.Use this if you want to play your games with PS1-like graphics)
2 = Linear Filtering (Surreal's default setting)
3 = Anisotropic Filtering (Slower but better quality. My favorite btw wink.gif)
4 = Flatcubic Filtering (Cubic Filter mode.Looks almost like Point Filter mode)
5 = Gaussiancubic Filtering (Cubic Filter mode with a different cubic kernel)

Misc:
Don't try to change the values XOffset,YOffset,XStretch and YStretch,as they don't work in this release.
DO NOT DELETE THEM THOUGH !

You can find some screenshots of the new filter modes on my website.
Have fun with this one smile.gif
