Light Gun Compatibility Thread
« Reply #31 on: January 20, 2005, 01:08:00 PM »

I received the X-Gunner Mark II gun today and I've messed around with it a bit.  So far, the only emulator I've got it to work on is Mameox.  I get the cross hairs to follow the gun movements in FCE Ultra for Duck Hunt and SMS Plus for Hang On/Safari Hunt, but it doesn't respond to the trigger.  I have the gun plugged into port one and I've calibrated the gun in all emulators...so maybe it's just flaky.  I'd bet it's just me not being an expert gun calibrater.

On the Hang On/Safari Hunt game, there's a start screen that asks you to shoot the screen if you want to play safari hunt.  When I do, it goes to Hang On...wtf.  As for Duck Hunt, I can't even get into the game, but at the start screen it has my gun crosshairs and I can move it all over the screen, but it doesn't recognize the trigger presses.  Is there somewhere in the gun calibration where you have to tell it what the trigger is?  In the calibration screen it accepts it when I pull the trigger to confirm the crosshair placement.

On the game in Mameox I did play, Police Trainer, it was kinda fun.  I don't see the point of the recoil feature that everyone on here desires.  It doesn't feel like a gun recoiling at all.  It's more distracting than anything.  All it does is remind you that the controller you're holding is hollow plastic because of the sound it makes on the recoil.

Lukenatme

Did u try configuring the game? There is a option to assign the zapper to port 1 or port 2.

I had the same problem as you, but cant remember if this fixed it.

I have the Silent Scope rifle and it works with HOTD, (im guessing that it works with silent scope, but i dont own it!), all nes & master systems gun games.....
..but i cant get it 2 work in Mameox :( . I've tried, failed and quit! I think its my gun!

ph34r.gif Ok i`m kinda late in my replies...so I will be quick:  Yes the M9 100MHZ lightgun(automatic laser pointer aim) works OK with Silent Scope without any adjust on screen, works in most games in Mameox, Nes, but I dont get Master System gun games to work correctly...but I bet this gun is a wisely choise to buy, I really recommend it...

About Silent Scope...

I just don't believe you.

Do you have a High Definition TV? That is the only kind of TV I haven't tried Silent Scope on.

I figure maybe when the game is running at 480p it actually works, because on any other type of TV, it sure as hell doesn't work at all, in ANY situation I have tried, and the reports are the same from everyoen else I know who has tried.

I finally took my decision and got me the M9 100Hz light gun that seemed to have positive feedback. And after playing a bit with it, I recommend you stay away from this shit.

First, it looks like crap. A site advertised it as 'Super Small'. That's wrong. It is 'Ridiculously Tiny'... Actually it looks like a cheap water gun for little kids. The so called trigger is probably the worst part of the gun. It has no pressure at all and you can clearly hear the "click" of the button which is soo unrealistic and makes you think you're holding a computer mouse in your hand. I don't like the vibration effect they put either. It would probably have been good if they used better quality material but the plastic is so cheap that the vibration is unbearable. The laser aim isn't that bad but there's no way to turn it off which is annoying to say the least. And finally there were lags in every games.

I don't understand how people can call this piece of crap a quality light gun.

As for the main purpose of this thread (and if you still want to buy this light gun) it worked on House Of The Dead III, Starsky & Hutch and FCEUltra (if you don't mind the lags that is).

I could calibrate it on Mameox as well but couldn't make it work on any of the games I tried and actually don't care much now because I'm going to return it...

Oh yeah and to people claiming it works with Silent Scope... it sure works if you don't mind setting the brightness level at 45 out of 50 haha...  <_<

Anyway take my advice, stay away from this crap and any other cheap chinese Light Gun.

The two models I'm considering now are either the Thrustmaster Beretta which has had nothing but positive comments from users and is a quality product for a change or the new G1 Light Gun from e-realgames which happens to be the first wireless Light Gun for Xbox and is compatible with any TV.

http://www.erealgames.com/

Now if only I could get confirmation it worked on emulators as well, anyone ?

I got that info from eReal Games, developers of the G1 Light Gun, thought I'd pass it on here :

QUOTE
At the moment the G1 doesn’t work well with Silent Scope, though are future generation will have additional qualities which will enable you to play perfectly with it. We are doing testing with Xbox emulators in our lab but haven’t released the results as yet. So at the moment House of the Dead is the only compatible game for Xbox that we certify, though there is no harm in you trying to use it with other games that you have mentioned. There are certain programming calls that are required for the gun to be properly active, if these aren’t available then it won’t work.

How many of you were sussesful when trying to use a lightgun with duckhunt? Does it work as well as the NES "zapper" guns did? What gun do you own?

I had a sudden urge to play duck hunt today, so I hooked up the ol' NES my (older) brother had... but I can't get it to work anymore. :(

I'm really desperate! :P
