Alright...

I just got knocked out by Tyson...USING THE NES GAMEPAD!!!

It works 100%...

You have to cut the chip out of the NES controller

You do not need a power line

I'll post a more complete post with hi-res pictures of the job tomorrow morning...

Thank you for all your help!!!!

The goal of an emulator is to simulate the "real thing".  So a NES emulator should be indestinguishable from the real thing, with regards to playing the game.  This means that it should be displayed on a TV, controlled with original NES game controllers, and the graphics, sound, etc. should be just like the real NES.

So far the Xbox comes close, but it has weak support for NES game controllers.

one day i thought it would be cool to have some demultiplex chips that convert the genesis, nes signla onto different wires, so there would be no need to hack every singel controller, only matter we had to cut the connectors out of the old consoles

Hoppity...

Circuit tester...

Cut the cord put one end of the tester on pin one and then touch each wire till you get a circuit...

Here are some more shots...I'm too lazy to type the solder spots out...my cheat sheet is one of the pics...

Just solder one wire from the monitor/serial plug to the associated point (i.e. TP13)...

Enjoy... beerchug.gif

Awesome...I'll do the same...

I may rip the other memory cart slot out and stick a 9 pin in also so I won't have to modify the atari joystick...

I have a genesis 6 button and an SNES laying around...I'll give them a shot soon...

Also some things I ran across...

I used an old huge xbox controller...The solder joints were way too small on the S... everyone seems to agree that after market controllers are the way to go but I didn't have one laying around...

I also disconnected the rumble motors...last thing I want is for those friggin things to rattle a solder loose...

well post the pix when you make it...

not easily.  The N64 Joystick, for example is analog.   try finding a 30 wire shielded cable. (probably only the old parralel cord matches that desciption.)
Otherwise you could cannibalize a small xbox controller and try to fit it's guts into a N64 pad.  That is impossible at best.  Mostly becuase of the button placement.

here is the information you seek.
If you look closely at the control stick, there is about 6-8 wires attached.  They may either be useful, or useless.  It doesn't seem likely that they do anything other than send data.  If someone could find out how it relates to the xbox control stick, they could find out how many wires it would take.
I am willing to try this mod, and I definately will, however it seems hard to do.

P.S. For the buttons, triggers and ground, that is 15 wires.
A standard parralel port cable has 25 wires.  So it would be A MUST for the control stick to be 10 wires or less.
It's possible to do,  and I'm confident I might be the one to write a tutorial on it, depending on those analog joystick wires biggrin.gif
