at the current moment no emulator has USB support for any controolers, thats leaves you with 1 option, USE THE XBOX controller. you can hack it and soder wires on to it and make it this big ugly thing, or go to walmart and buy 2 things RETROcon (looks and feels like NES SNES controller but yoll still ahve R3 functions) and get teh ps2 to xbox converter. plane and simple.

QUOTE (dtupper @ Sep 15 2004, 09:29 PM)
And I think I would have to say that you are definitely incorrect that most gamers would rather use the xbox controller...unless you are young enough that the nes controller doesn't mean something to you...

If the extra buttons are what you are after you can map them to button combinations on the nes pad that will give you full functionality...

This current setup is great but I still can't wait till I can plug an atari paddle into my xbox, crack a beer, and play circus atari. beerchug.gif

If you read most of these posts, most people care about just being able to play the games, or they keep on asking when is the next Surreal comming out. Now you might want a feel of nostalgia, but if is that important and you wanted that, play the NES and atari that you own, which I own my own.

I hated the NES controller, and think if there was an older cotroller to be used it would be SNES controller because of feel and buttons. I don't want to have to press a special combination of buttons to get out of the game when all I have to do is press the right analogue. I truley like the s-controller. I prefer comfort over nostalgia.

In truth I feel that it would be more of hassle having multiple types of controllers for a system. I wouldn't want to have to keep switching out controllers to play different games. The ablity to have the amount of buttons on the xbox controller allows a player to switch from one program to the next without changing it out for something else. For a little while I'll play be playing Mike Tyson's Punchout, another I'll be play Street Fighter Alpha 3, then I will switch to Castlevania Symphony of the Night, and not to mention my normal xbox games and other emulators.

I don't speak for the gaming audience, and I didn't mean to, but playing a controller from almost 20 years ago just doesn't excite me much. The atari paddle, I understand that more then the NES controller, but still doesn't give me a feeling of want as well, but whatever floats your boat.

xbox doesn't have the driver for those controllers so they won't work. windows has a universal driver that works with any cheap controller

if we just lived with what we have you'd wouldn't even be playing nes on your xbox...

It's amazing the difference in enthusiam between this forum and the one on Arcade Controls for my mame machine...

Must be the Gimme Generation issue...

He never said you "HAD" to live with it, but by the fact that you would have to do so much for something so unimportant, it was more of a suggestion.

If you don't want to live with it, do the soldering work yourself.

"Gimme Generation"? There are a lot of different generations on this forum. Also the fact is that arcade forums treat things differently because a lot of them are purists. If you're in an emulation forum, why are you trying to be a purist? Thats like asking to be able to play Hendrix albums on a CD player. You get my drift? Emulation is made to bring the old in the era of now.

There is no generation involved in your argument, its the purists and emulators, and it seems you're stuck right in the middle of both groups. Thats your own right and opinion, but why speak of the opinions of the forum as if they are some comformity that has gone wrong?

re:  Emulation is made to bring the old in the era of now

Dude,

I'm just trying to play games on my xbox with the controller they were created for...

It just seems that you only get posts from naysayers when you are looking for some creative input.

Can someone explain the HID difference?  Or the difficulty in bringing the driver in Windows that allows the retropad to work over to the box?

Take an old NES con, and gut it. Then take your xbox con and rmove all the guts. Pop the Dpad and the X and A button into the NES. Paint to your prefernece. Tie off all the other wires, and voila!!!

plain and simple, xbox doesn't use windows and it must have a driver written for it just like you need to use a driver for the xbox controller on the pc.

if you want it so bad, do the work for yourself as most of us are happy with using xbox controller or using an adapter for other controller types.

Xport himself has said it isn't going to happen! This thread should be closed.  No one seems to understand how hard it is to add drivers that are not included in the Xbox developemnt kit.

There should be a pinned topic "HOW TO GET USB CONTROLLERS ON YOUR XBOX!!!"
