My guess would be APB, its the only game I can think of thats is an overhead view cop game.

Nice one guys, I love seeing these threads!!  Makes everyone re-live the "good ole days" even though when you play most of those old classics now a days, we're spoiled...heheh

Here's one I've been looking for a while.  It's a final fight type game, thinking late 80's early 90's and you can pick 4 different characters.  Now the cool thing about this one is that you could press a certain button right next to your enemy (ANY enemy) and you would become them and have all their moves and stuff, I thought it was the coolest thing.  While punching them you could do this real-time, it was pretty neat.  I think it's emulated by MAME but not sure, maybe Taito made it also

Likklebaer, you have an amazing ability. I always thought you were an older man masquerading as a young girl, but NOW I know you're a cyberganic extra terrestrial super computer, who in fact used telepathy to force humans to make these video games. THAT would explain EVERYTHING!

it was a limited release. Had a co-sponsor deal with MTV, where MTV gave a secret password on the air which you had to use to unlock a new level or something. Finish the game with the new level, send in a screenshot, and prizes were awarded.

It was a sidescroll platformer. I remember big steel boots were magnetic, and you used them to walk in crazy places albeit slow. Title was 2 words.

I've been battling with myself for years trying to remember the name of an arcade game that my dad and I would play in the late 80's.  My memory of the game details is about as vague as the other first post, so I thought I'd give it a try.  I recall the game being mostly a side scroller, like Double Dragon.  However, I remember that along the side scrolling path, there'd be buildings to enter, I recall one room being a bar.  In these rooms I believe it was no longer side scrolling, but up and down movement.  I recall weapons such as chains,  but I'm not sure about this last detail as I am with all others.  There you go, vague, vague, vague.. somebody please impress me with their knowledge! It would feel extremely nostalgic to play this game today!

It was a vertical shooter (I think). You were a red bi-plane, I believe... And you were flying through a city (at least on the first level). As powerups, you'd get other little airplanes to fly beside you... if you were good enough, you could have about 6 planes flying beside you.

I'd love to find this one.

Late 80's, I think.

this one has been bothering me...

I don't remember much,  but it was in the arcades in the early 90's.  Possibly NEO-GEO, but I don' think so.  Anywho, you get to choose different schools, pick 3 people?  and fight against other schools. I think it was quasi-side scroller. I know it isn't rival schools.  But I really would like to remember which game this was.  please help!

Wow this is a great thread and brings back many memories. I too have one that im stumped to remember the name of and thus cannot find it for my mame.
Anyway it was a side scrolling shooter IE, metal slug, contra and you was a soldier dressed in armour (you may have been a robot) and anyway all i can remember is that as you start the first level you will run up and down slopes and midway through or perhaps the end of the 1st level you come up to some water and you fight a dinosaur type creature.  I used to think it was called "soldier of light" or something like that.

Can anyone help with this, it was deffo late eighties maybe done by taito but thats a wild guess

Soldier of light is actually called Xain'd Sleena in japan and thats available for mame so woo hoo!!
