Running A Zip With Roms

I have the latest version of xsnes and I'm trying to run some (over800) roms w/o the smc extension (why they don't have it, I dont know.). My problem is when I put them in my ROms dir xsnes wont show them. And when  .zip them up, then try and run the zip file the whole console just freezes. What gives? anyone know what to do? thanks for any advice in advance.

Maybe it's because they don't have the extension?

run Goodsnes on them, the files will be properly named then.

(then use the xbox shorten option to make them xbox filelenght compatible)
