when i am playing this game i use save states in order to save.  When i load the save state the game completly slows down and is messed up.  Is there a configuration that i have to do with this game?

I'm guessing it was an accident...
But as far as the question goes, I've never had any sort of problems using save states. There's a second or so where the emu catches up in framerate, but nothing long-term. It's not specific to Zero Mission itself, is it?

Metroid Zero Mission does work fine. You can encounter this problem in other games too such as Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario world and on Boktai. To fix this, you'll need to let the rom boot up first, then wait till you get to the title screen, now load your state.
