As far as pc based utilities you dont find much other then the standard
Hex editor / couple save state editors for specific games / text editing programs.
I just meant to show how much more you can do then
just search for infinite hearts in zelda.
Not too mention its so much easier to edit stuff with a big screen tv in front of you
and a soft couch under teh butt!
And sure i like playing games, but its the curiousity inside of me,
what happens when i get that high amount of coins that this guy is asking for in this certain rpg,
damn thats a cool boss, i wonder if i can play as him..
what would happen if i hacked out a certain time limit..
Thats how they found the hidden maps in
Legend of Zelda : The Wind WakerThats how they found out that Sonic, Knuckles, Tails are selectable secret characters in
Phantasy Star OnlineThats how they found out about the
secret TEST stage in mario world, and the NO YOSHI art that was never used, and the never used floating sprites on the map.Thats how they found out about the
Super Metroid Debug roomThats how they found out that Hulk Hogan's Moves & Portrait that are still in WWE Smackdown 5
Thats how they found out about Jeff Hardy & The Ultimate Warrior stuff that they tried to delete from the game.
Thats how they found out about the unused songs in Chrono Trigger
Thats how they found out about the
Unfinished level in Super Smash BrosThats how they found out about the
unused sprites and level select screen and odd levels in Mario 3I love games, i love playing beta versions to see how the game progressed,
I love reading interviews with game creators (especially gamepro's mk2 stuff)
I love seeing stuff that we were supposed to never see (earthbound 0, seiken densetsu 3, starfox 2)
i'm a gamer, these are the things i enjoy, knowing these things makes me enjoy
them so much more, and i love to have the power to discover these things myself.
then again maybe i'm just not an average gamer, but these are the things i enjoy besides playing a regular game.
who cares about getting the most out of your game..
I mean who goes to gamefaqs and rejoices when he finds out that his favorite game
contains so much more hidden deep inside? is that just me?
then again maybe we should all stop wanting to get more out of our games,
afterall we all remember Nintendo's policy of hating everything that was the Game-Genie.
