Exactly, that is were you can get any old games. Even though sega saturn and jaguar are old downloading the games is still piracy. Old warez are still warez. Plus saturn is just one of those systems everyone should own.

...and if I don't have $500 handy?

It's not practical to say "just buy a saturn," just like it's not practical to tell someone to "just buy a neo geo."

Yeah living in europe sure sucks when it comes to buying second hand consoles..

or the time when i found a Genesis with Sega CD addon in this other shop, no games = $350

or that time i bid on House of the Dead 1, skyrocketed to $85 before the auction ended.

sigh.. sad.gif

$500?!?

are you insane?
take a quick look and you'll see several good condition saturns closing at around $25-$50 including games and perepherals...  that's a steal for anyone that appreciates the solid library of games that this system had.  if you aren't even willing to put down $30 for the system, how could you be so enthusiactic about emulating it?

here's one example...

You don't know what you're talking about.  It's not difficult to get a saturn, it's difficult to get the best games.  I've yet to see PDS close on ebay for under $100, and it usually goes for over $200.  The saturn games are impossible to find offline, as well.

I already have a saturn, but emulation is the only way to get the rare games.

why not just buy a saturn and the games instead of stealing them

Why post in the emulators forum if you assume everyone wanting an emulator is stealing games?

If that's why you think most of use run emu's you're wrong.  I have a saturn and over 20 original saturn games (including panzer dragoon saga, astal, etc.).  I would love to be able to put all my saturn games on my xbox's hdd, and play them in 720p with the aid of graphics filters for better looking graphics, if it were possible.  Being able to put all my old systems on my xbox's hdd is so damn nice, neat and convenient.

Is, in the case of Saturn and Jaguar, emulation really stealing?

The Companies, who made these games are no longer selling them, so there is no money going there. The few originals, that are out there, are getting top prices on Ebay, so it doen´t seem to affect their value. Collectors who want them, are willing to pay for them and the collectors value of the game is not reduced, no matter how many copies are out there. Radiant Silvergun will always cost 100+ bucks at least, no matter if there are more copies than originals in existence.

So in legal terms it may be stealing, but do we have to live with a bad conscience? I don´t think so.

that being said, you could find a saturn mod chip (generally under $15-20) and play the likes of Radient Silvergun and all those other expensive goodies for free. (they used to sell them at lik-sang, but not anymore.  however, you can still find them scattered about on random online game stores)

I doubt you've ever seen a saturn mod chip.  Assuming the saturn I have is even the 21 point moddable version, I'm not going to solder 21 microscopic points.

I have tons of good cheap games, I used to walk into funcoland with a fifty-dollar bill and walk out with a bag of saturn discs.  I can't do that anymore, though, and all the games I want now are collectors' items.

Emulation is also much more practical than consoles, I'm sure everyone here owned a Genesis or an SNES at one point, but it's too much of a hassle to go set it up and mess around with carts and not being able to save and all that.  Other than NeoGeo, I'm sure most people HAVE owned the systems they emulate.

this is true
and what about those nintendo games, you can't even get those to work anymore, and if you do they freeze up within 5 min.

so emulation is better

they aren't as hard to find as you may think...  i just picked one up a few months back so i could play some imports that i had bought online earlier plus a backup copy of "scud: the disposable assassin" because the original had been scratched to hell.

also, you don't have to solder anything, you just plug the chip in between the ribbon cable that goes from the cd drive to the main board (even easier than an xbox mod).  I installed mine in less than 10 minutes.

actually you do have to solder 2 wires. the chip does plug into the ribbon cable but one wire goes to get some power and the other goes to a chip on the board. both are extremely easy points to solder.  The modchip is also only for games for the region Saturn you have.  it does not beat the region code.  if you have an action replay you can take care or that.

I've had a pro action replay 4-in-1 for years, now I see them selling 12-in-1s.
