Cheers for your prior post about the snaps folder. Was beginning to think I'd got some strange incompatibility issue. Was gonna have to buy a new chip/box/drive as SpeXtrum is the reason I modded in the first place smile.gif

This is great. I hope it works with Monty Mole, River Raid and Thrust II.  smile.gif

Thanks a million.

The credit for the virtual kayboard should go to MHz - it was his idea originally.

Tazmanian_Devil,

yes you can have more than 1 tap file in the snaps folder. Loading another tap is simply a case of selecting the file, reset the spectrum and type 'LOAD ""' again (or choose Tape Loader when emulating a 128K machine)

I think I have come up with a way of autoloading tap files, so hopefully that will make it into the next release.

Clive - I'm in the same position. Seasoned burner, but can't get this to shift.

Have used cdrw and dvd, have used simple iso and Qwix, have used Nero and Stomp now. Have even just ftp'd the files to the xbox.

When I run the spextrum.xbe - I just get a black frozen screen. When running from media the media is ignored and it goes straight to the dash

Have even tried different copies of the emu

Leaves me to one conclusion, as I have no video issues and have access to an original ms dash - gotta be my evox version. So I'm just about to update that....

Let me know how u go...

Hmmm, Hmmmmm, mut*** bas**** fu**er!

New Evox dash (latest) fitted. Still black screening when ftp'd. Still being ignored when using cdrw/dvd-r

Still no joy

Any ideas greatfully received. 8 solid hours in and still no joy....

Can folk confirm I have all the files?
What version of winrar are folk using to unrar this?

Files:-

Bios, snaps, media folders
spextrum.xbe file

Couple of read me's

To get it to run on my PAL Xbox (which has the video mode changed to NTSC) I first had to change it back to PAL video mode and then rename the spextrum.xbe to default.xbe.

Given that it appearsa problem with the XBE, I'm beginning to feel that this may be a winrar problem...

Could someone who has succesfully got this burned, please tell me which version of WINRAR they used to uncrunch the original file.

Many thanks

Long live the Spectrum!

You shouldn't have to - unless trying to boot directly from media or have it auto-detected by a dash.

Grab yourself a copy of xbepatch (I think dexbe does the job as well) and run it on the xbe.

I think both those tools are available on the software/tools page of x-s

edit: xbepatch is available from http://www.xbox-scen...php?page=xbexbx

Tested a few games. PAL Xbox1.4 with X2.2, EvoxM7, WD250GB. ControllerS

Pssst!: works fine.
RiverRaid: Doesn't seem to be able to steer in any direction other than right.
Auf Weidersehen Monty 48: Game loads, but doesn't accept input.(?)
Auf Weidersehen Monty 128: Works fine.
Thrust II: Game loads, but doesn't accept input.
Snowman: Loads, but doesn't accept input (actually, it does wander left occasionally)
ManicMiner: Playable, but down on the DPad is right. (Right is jump right.)
3dTank (or whatever its called.. you know the wireframe one with the spider pyramid tank things) worked once, but steered backwards rather than right. Couldn't get it to accept input on subsequent tries.
Galaxians: Works fine, but there were so many games called Galaxians,  Reminds me, I've gotta find the right version of this. My favoured flavour is the one from Arctic.

Most of my problems were with input. I don't know whether this means my keyboard mapping is junked or something. Redefine keys seemed to not understand UpLeft on the DPAD (shows as ?) and shows a few too many of the other directions as the same number.

Great to see a playable Speccy reach the box though:) Seriously impressed. Here's to hoping I've just missed something in the readme regards Kempston or cursor control.

Suggested future features:-

Save states

Folder support for games (A to Z)

Favourites folder and management of same

TZX support, just for fun!

Sort out the strange keyboard delays

Extra fire button - not sure if this is a universal problem, but when redefining the keys in commando, I could shoot, but it wouldn't let me redefine the grenade key!

Filtering so if you're in 48k mode only those games appear and vica versa with 128 games

Assorted graphical filters - mind you, how much nicer can a speccy look, that Mame filter is doggy's gonads!

TAP loading without all the fandangoing

Built in help page with keys etc listed

Website, or forum list of compatibility aka MAMEOX

Wait until you see the UI... wink.gif

I think you might be getting confused - the joypad doesn't map to any keys. It is only emulating joystick commands.

This is most likely why you had problems with redefining keys to joystick directions.

Kempston emulation should work fine - just choose the kempston option in game.

There may be a bug in the sinclair joystick emulation which is causing the strange behaviour in manic miner (possibly some others too).

It's a bit confusing as even from BASIC the d-pad lets you enter 6,7,8,9 and 0, and it /is/ possible to use this to allow you to define keys in some games.  I've forgotten which off hand, but it did work last night on a few I tried.

Also, sometimes the Kempston menu options in games don't work, perhaps there's an issue with the auto-detect joystick in speXtrum at the moment - might be worth making that a toggle between cursor, kempston and sinclair...?

Ah, well see I was playing FW Dizzy last night and 'right' just make the little guy jump right, rather than walk right.  Down made him walk right, if you see what I mean.
