KeRbDoG,

my apologies, I threw the readme together in a bit of a hurry and forgot to thank you publicly for hooking me up with the GMail account.

On the subject of beta testers - there really is nothing to beta. The version that was released is the latest build. I plan to release as and when I make significant changes. So effectively everyone is beta (alpha) testing.

yadster,

alot of the things you mentioned are already planned for the future, so just hold in there!

Also regarding the games not responding to the keyboard. I noticed this myself when trying a game called Little Puff, but after a couple of minutes of waiting on the title screen things started responding fine. I don't know if that will work for any other games though.

I think I know where the problem might be so I will take a look later in the week.

barrasxbox,

As mentioned in the readme, if you have time and want to come up with some ideas for UI artwork/concepts etc, please do so and drop me a line.

I'll take a first look at the emulator tonight and get back to you.  Noticed from the readme that there's no option to stretch and move the display on your TV which is always handy - might be worth bearing in mind for a future release possibly?

Tazmanian_Devil

games go in the snaps folder - I forgot to mention that in the readme, apologies.

I can't remember if tzxvault has anything other than tzx format games, but currently tzx images are not supported.

www.worldofspectrum.org is a good alternative.

I just tried out this alpha version and it's really great - thanks!!

A few observations:

i)  I too have found that some games (eg Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy) don't seem to respond to the enter key for a while (15 seconds), but then seem to start fine

ii) I can't load files within folders in the file browser

iii) The virtual keyboard is wonderful, but it would be nice to be able to wrap around (moving left off the screen brings you round to the right) and it would be easier if the default key was either "enter" (as it's used a lot) or is the centre key (around "G") so it's a shorter distance to other keys on average.

other than that I think it's fantastic - thanks again!

Now that I know it seems to be working ok, for the most part, I can start to fix problems and work on adding a more advanced UI.

barrasxbox,

that again is something that is on the list of planned features. If you're familiar at all with Xenesis you'll know the kind of things I'll be aiming to include.

For information, currently the display isn't using the whole screen anyway. When I did have it running like that I found the bottom of the image was lost on my tv, and at the time I couldn't be bothered putting in any stretching/positioning code.

I guess you could say that at the moment the app is configured specifically to my needs (hence the no stretching, ntsc etc). This will change in the future once I get a better idea of whether it is working properly or not!

Yeah, I noticed that when I tried it last night - my main concern was that my widescreen tv doesn't allow a 4:3 mode when it gets an rgb signal, so most emulators need stretching inwards.  As you said, it doesn't use the whole width and height anyway, so looks OK as it is.

The emulator is wonderful, you mentioned a low compatibility rate in the readme but it looks like it's about 90% as it is!  Some games don't work first time, especially after trying a few other games, but a quick reset with the handy white button fixes them and they'll load the next time.

The sound is perfect (apart from the speech you mentioned) - fantastic for a beta.  The advmame filter works a treat - keeps the Speccy 'feel' to the graphics but rounds off the edges.  I have a USB keyboard but the on-screen one is probably the best I've ever seen and means I can use the emulator from my sofa!  All in all a total surprise and a much-needed emulator.  Congratulations!

I'll be emailing you later with a couple of UI ideas.

Thanks!
