Msbios Dead After Xeniumos 2.0.1 Update
« on: October 09, 2004, 12:55:00 AM »

OK PEEPS THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL INSTALLERS, ETC

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION

Today I modded two v1.6 Xbox's with the Xenium Ice chips
Both were brand new from the store and were working fine before hand.
And two seperate chips.

However After I did the Xenium OS 2.0.1 update my MS Bios was Dead.
Neither box will boot the MS Bios, however works excellent with the mod chip.

DO NOT FLASH WITH THE LATEST XENIUM OS..2.0.1
WARNING....

I don't see this!!!  let me spot your error

u installed on a 1.6 box and upgraded the os
unless u modded your box for a tsop flash there is no way the chip cud fubar your ms bios (then again it's a 1.6 and since I don't know everything bout the 1.6 I may be wrong-when u rebuild the lpc do u also enable tsop flashing as a side effect???)

anyway probably not! but lets get back to your upgrade
if u did the hdd upgrade, which I suspect u did cos it's easier then u wud need to unlock the hdd

now unless uv relocked it, trying to boot with the original bios will give u an error
so no your ms bios is not dead, just lock your hdd and try again...

just a thought

No the MS Bios is dead..even without the mod chip the xbox doens't boot
I don't even get an xbox flubber.. nothing...flashing green thats it..no error #...

I've done over 130 Xbox mod installs so I know what I'm talking about.

Both of the Xbox's are also the original HD's.
Unlocked only to update the Xenium OS..and then relocked using the Xenium OS
BIOS used is the EvoxM8 1.6 LBA48 IGR

I've had no problems like this to date with Xenium OS2.0.0 and earlier.
Only the new OS 2.0.1

I have done no kind of tsop flash on these boxes.

Humm.. no idea..maybe....this is taken directly from their homepage

"Team Xodus releases XeniumOS 2.0.1

This update is being released to address several minor/moderate bugs, and 2 potentially serius bugs.

It is reccomended that all users upgrade to this version of XeniumOS.

Download is available in our Stable download section."

No where in there does it say anything about special instructions for a v1.6
And also if this is such a "stable" release why does it kill the MS-Bios

If you can find a link where they say something like not to upgrade on v1.6 please post it here. Thanks

did you unlock the hd's?

If you have a 1.6 xbox, be sure the HDD is unlocked or it wont be able to recover from the HDD... Also, the 2.0.1 ISO seems to be problematic for many; try simply burning the recovery.bin from the HDD d/l onto the root of an ISO9660 CD.

Hmm, don't know what could have happened;  my 1.6 with the Xenium ICE and 2.0.1 works great, boots the retail kernel, and with the chip off, boots fine...

You haven't grounded LFRAME have you? If you did, instead of soldering it to d0, then trying to boot the retail kernel would reboot the xbox; still doesn't explain why the chips wont boot without the chip though...

For now I guess you can just load the M$ BIOS onto the chip's flash memory so that you can play LIVE, etc...

The other weird thing is that I thought 1.6s didn't have flashable TSOPs... So it seems odd that your M$ BIOS seem to have disappeared...

aaaah, from appleguru's post I think uv prob grounded the lframe so your box is always looking for the modchip (which as u state works) which explains the no boot with retail kernal

@appleguru: yup I forgot the 1.6 doesn't really have a tsop and hence it cannot be flashed  :D

ahh..some info..

yeah i duno guys but something is fishy with that update
like i said the hd's were unlocked to update the OS
then relocked.
and there was nothing wrong with the installs.. or the lpc rebuild.
two seperate chips..two seperate boxes. both new..

now i have heard of loading the msbios onto the chip before
right now that seems to be the only option to fix these two boxes to make them xbox live compatible

where and how can i get the MSBios bin file????
or do i 'take' it from the xbox itself ?
i didn't see it on xbins :)

any links or info on my doing this would be great

WOOT... IT worked.....I downloaded the MS_5838 bios from Xbins
Flashed the Xenium Ice.

And boom it loaded just fine...
So the box is now fully functional.

But the question  still remains... whats wrong with the onboard bios ??? and why did the Xenium OS kill it ?

That's Xenium Blues, not Xenium ICEs

Sounds to me like an EEPROM issue, not a BIOS issue.

Its possible to erase the EEPROM, its much much harder to erase/corrupt the BIOS, and would normally require hardware modificaiton (but I don't know if this is the case on the 1.6)

 Hmmm

And you're sure you've wired up the d0/lframe correctly?

It really sounds like its forced to ground!

yea check your wiring in my opinion, i just did a 1.6 w/ a xenium ice, tested tsop(retail bios, i know there's not really a tsop) and evox m8, both work fine.

all i used was the HDD version of the 2.0.1 update and burned it to an cdrw
