Turok 2/turok: Rage Wars.
« on: February 18, 2004, 06:15:00 AM »

Hi, i've been reading through the surreal compatability lists and they seem to say that turok 2, and turok rage wars work? i have tried several different version roms of these games but to no avail :( are there specific settings to get these to run?

the problem i get when i choose to run them in 1964 or project 64 is the game simply wont load, its just a black screen, i appreciate anyone who could help :)

I've run Turok 2 on a PAL box. Worked fine (although I just played for a couple of minutes). MarioParty 1-3 and Mario Tennis also works fine - but some gfx glitches on Mario Tennis.

Think that both of you should check your roms, and make sure you play the (U)[!] version of those games (although (E) and (J) might also work).

i checked the turok 2 rom i have with goodn64 and it says its fine and it is the (u) [!] version, yet it still wont run on surreal, it just freezes with a black screen, i also downloaded the (E) [!] version and still didnt work, all other games that are meant to work are fine but turok just wont! :(

can someone tell me what settings they use just incase i accidently changed it? because i dont know what else i can do.

Have you read through the compatibility lists and found out who posted it working, and what settings they used? Always check that thread first.

It's really easy, if you searched you would have found several posts by myself on the matter. It's a known problem with certain Acclaim roms.

FTP surreal.ini from the xbox
E/TDATA/a64fea57/
to the PC

edit the ini in any text editor, search for turok in the ini until you find the one you want (Check the goodrom name against the ini entry). add to the game ini entry

Use Basic Audio=1

and save and FTP back to the xbox to overwrite the copy you FTP'd to the PC.

Load Surreal64 and enjoy.

Turok 1, 2, 3 & Rage wars all start ok with this but Turok 3 is the only one that's decently playable (Speed issues) IMHO.

That I can't answer as these don't need the ini entry they work fine out of the box. Maybe bad roms or a bad copy of surreal64, make sure you goodn64 all your roms and download surreal64 from #xbins.

Mario party 2 & 3 run perfectly, not tried 1 and mario tennis is good to play but issues with the shadow. These issues have been addressed in Rice's updated plugin (Not the one used by Surreal64) but they will probably "Cane" the emulator and really slow it down (It does on the PC).

No worries, I think maybe Iriez should update the ini that comes with surreal64 (No need to trouble Lantus or oDD with something this trivial) so the Acclaim roms start up with the standard dist. (Would take about 5 minutes).

These all need Use Basic Audio=1 adding to the ini

Southpark
Turok series
A wrestling game I can't remember the name of (Still by Acclaim)

There are probably more.

heh, little problem. surreal keeps overwriting the .ini so it still doesnt work, i just changed the ini to read-only so im going to test it out now.

{edit} lol, this just isnt windows. Read only means nothing!

I heard other people had this problem it worked fine for me. If it's rewritting the ini it's probably with the one in the surreal64 directory try editing that one as well.

nope its still being overwritten, hmm, one must get to the bottom of this.

right, the edited ini is 112k,  the original is 111k, i replaced the original in the surreal directory with my 112k version and that will stay.
but the one i put into the wierd dir, will always be overwriten with the 111k ini.

i noticed when i load the rom it says Saving Settings, and then turok loads this is obvously the problem :S but how to remove it?

PM me your email details as soon as I get home I'll email you my surreal.ini (It shouldn't make a difference).

Make sure you are defintely using surreal64 1.0 not the leak. Check the settings if you have a mupen audio plugin you have the leak if you have PJ64 rsp audio plugin then it's V1.0. Delete the directory

E/TDATA/a64fea57/

and surreal64 itself on my xbox it would be in

F/emulators/surreal64

then reinstall it (With surreal.ini edited in the surreal64 directory) and run it.

Try a different bios (pheonix bios loader)

I only use homebrew stuff I get off #xbins (Or the media player FTP if you use xbins you'll know), I'd redownload it to be safe.

It does work honestly I'm stumped why yours doesn't.
