Stealth, great job, the instructions were clear and worked first pop....great to see...

However, being the graphics bitch I am, as soon as I saw a resolution option in the menu (after only playing like 10 seconds), I sent Blackgate to 800x600, whcih caused it to crash...not sure why, maybe the port/tv whatever doesn't support it....perhaps I suggest you remove this option if it doesn't work?

Else great job, again.

Yes i just discovered this last night too.  Turns out the version of libSDLx I did most of the development with had no problems with 800x600, but the newest one (the once the released exultx is linked with) does not allow it.  I've mentioned it to lantus and he's going to re-enable it in the next version and I'll update exultx when that is available.

It's not an emu, and this post was placed in the wrong section of the forums, but we'll forgive Stealth that this one time! smile.gif

That is not entirely correct.

Exult emulates the game engine of the original Ultima VII.  It only uses the same data files.

I wonder why the console ports (this being the 1 exception) always water down the Ultima series so hard core.

Of course the NES game 4 and 5 some nice graphical updates, but still, the game is not the same, on the other hand as far as I know the Sega Master System version of 4 remained pretty true to the original.

Ultima 3 was the first RPG I recall ever playing, aside of those old text adventures we had in the learly early 80's such as Zork and what not.

I was considering the following changes to the controller layout:

Holding down L-trig slows mouse movement for finer precision movements
D-pad diagonals make you walk diagonal
R-Trig as a "shift" which will change Y and B and white and black to different commands.

Sound good?

Yes.  Those are good (plus K).

It's a b1tch trying to pickup single coins and reagents right now.

Perhaps so.

I was thinking that it made more sense to have the L-trig affect the left side of the controller, and the R-trig affect the right.

Ideally I will add the option to configure it.  Depends on how ambitious I feel.

...but not a machine hardware. I was half right. I'd still stick in the games section with ScummVM.

ScummVM and Sarien are both in Emulators, though. Virtual Machines have been emulated since the dawn of the concept (CHIP-8, anyone?).  But either way, I enjoy this new emulator/game, not as much as Microwave Doom, but close.  wink.gif

A fore warning for anyone thinking of downloading U7 you need the cloth map (which came with original) to get around the copy protection.

is there any way around it?
