The Official Surreal64 Help Thread
« Reply #780 on: March 07, 2009, 02:37:00 AM »

Sorry for resurrecting this thread.  Wow I really haven't been here in a loooong time.

So basically I got the urge to play WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF No Mercy, and Virtual Pro Wrestling (the three BEST wrestling games ever IMHO), so I decided to give Surreal64 another try.  As before (years ago when I first got my modded XBOX from modchipman), surreal loads up and no roms are on the list.

I decide to try burning the actual emulator onto a DVD, with the roms in a rom file.  So I have the surreal folder, and inside the surreal folder is my "ROMS" folder.  I edit the .ini to direct it to D:\Roms\.  Using CXBoxtool, I create an .iso and burn it with Alcohol.

Surreal64 loaded, but didn't show any roms.  I realized I titled the roms folder "ROMS" instead of "Roms", so I fixed that.

Now, Surreal64 loads, but I get this crazy black screen with the white arrows located in the top of the screen, rather than the top and bottom of the screen.  Also, the word, "QUIT" is visible in white text (same text as the usual button but without the button).  When I move the D-Pad around, It says:

"Rom Size: 128Mbit
Comments:"

in the lower left corner of the screen.  Also when I move the d-pad around, I get different values for "Rom Size" like 96Mbit, 128Mbit, and 320Mbit.

If I press Y, X, or B, nothing happens.  If I press A, a big, white, rounded rectangle pops up, and underneath it says:
"Add to Favorites
Configure Rom Specific Controllers
Configure Rom Specific Settings".

Please help!  I've been working on this for hours, consulting this thread and Google, and I've wasted about 11 blank DVD's with each attempt to get this to work.  I am totally stumped, but I REALLY want to play those games.  I know this is wierd but I miss them!

Thanks, and sorry for hassling you with this.

Just to clarify:
I'm using evoX on Xecuter 2 chip.
First version I tried was: Surreal64_FDB_v2
Second version I tried was: Surreal64_xxx_b4

Surreal64_FDB_v2 gave me the results I stated above.

Surreal64_xxx_b4 simply refuses to load and freezes my xbox, even after patching to retail with dexbe.

I tried getting into xbins thru mIRC and Auto XBINS 2008, but with mIRC it logged me in and almost instantaneously banned me.  Auto XBINS didn't even get me in; it just stated I was banned.  I don't get why.

I'm determined, but starting to feel like this is one dream I won't be realizing.  unsure.gif

Props to waal for solving my problem!  Thanks again waal!

Now if only I could get No Mercy to work.  But that's not for this thread.

And oh yeah, I meant VPW2, not VPW.  VPW is just that WCW game with whats his face william regal.

Guys,

Is there a way to play Dr. Mario 64 on Surreal?
The game itself works fine, however the FALLING PILLS can't get to be SEEN!
They are invisible... So, there is no way to play the damn' thing.

Anyone was able to find a correct configuration for Dr. Mario 64?

Best,
Cospefogo.

I had Surreal64 working almost flawlessly for about a month. I then decided to override my Zelda OOT rom with the US version from the EUR version because I was having some texture errors and the save menu was all jambled up. Since then, not a single rom has been able to load. I've tried almost every rom I have running it with PJ64 and 1964 and they all freeze at the loading rom phase with no red bar movement. I tried deleting a bunch of rom including the new Zelda and that did not solve it. I rerouted the Surreal64.ini file to E:\Emulators/Surreal64/Roms and that did not work. Can anyone give me a suggestion? Thanks!

Maybe try deleting Surreal and reinstalling it. Also delete your surreal save file.

Where is the surreal save file located. The one .ini in the TDATA?

Can't remember where (at work at the moment)
You can use MS DASH to delete it though.

My mistake. I actually let that screen sit for awhile just to see what would happen. After about literally 8minutes the rom finally boots up. any way to quicken this up for me?

I deleted the .ini file. uninstalled surreal then installed it again with completely new roms and still takes a year and a day to load up. Any suggestions please?

Hi, I noticed a couple of boxarts missing. I found them from websites, but I'm a little confused as to how to attach them to the roms. The filenames are strange hex looking ones, also in the .INI the tags are hex like too. I thought maybe they are simular but they wern't, then I tried to use a CRC app on a rom file to see if that output was the missing link. But I got totally lost. Is there a known procedure to do this? plz help, thanks..

I actually managed to answer my own question. regarding adding your own boxart. I must have missed it the first time i read through, but on a few pages back 'Thraxen' kindly explained the procedure.
anyway for anyone who wants a quick answer, use a tool called Tool64, find the rom and goto properties, and use crc1 value. if you need a more specific explination see Thraxen message.

cheers

No. where are they located? Is there anyway to keep some of them so i don't loose progress on my savestates?

Not sure of the exact file folder name in your E drive, but I use either "MS DASH" to delete it,
or 'Xbox Save Manager" to connect via FTP to see/delete/backup your game saves.

If you fire up XBMC/UnleashX's save game managers and highlight the save in concern, it'll give you some info on where it's actually located on the drive.
