Alright, I got a bit of a predicament. Wondering if any of you guys can help me.
So I've softmodded my Xbox successfully and all that, and I downloaded a Surreal64 XXX beta, and have been enjoying a few ROMs for about a day now.
But there's one problem. Some of the ROMs that were confirmed to work on Surreal64 V1.0 aren't working.
So I was wondering if it might have to do with the fact that I'm using XXX and not Ver. 1.0. Does anyone know?
Even if it isn't, which emulator would you guys recommend for N64 emulation? Surreal64 1.0, Surreal64 XXX, or something entirely different?
Thanks for any and all help.

i would suggest using the newest version surreall64xxxb5.you just have to play around with the different settings until you get it working.
what games are you trying to emulate?

Well on the compatibility list it said Donkey Kong 64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day would work, but they didn't. Just froze at a black screen.
Also, my friend was able to play Pokemon Snap on his Xbox, but the compatibility list says Surreal64 can't handle it.

Ah, alright. I'll try another ROM. Thanks. :3

Oh, also...
Do you know if there are any more recent compatibility lists for Surreal? The only one I can find is the one posted in 2004...

...Oh, and Majora's Mask just fatally glitched on me. There's another game that won't work. Hah.

Bah, I still don't get it.
Majora's Mask is supposed to work perfectly, and yet it won't work at all.
Are there any sort of settings I should be tinkering with in the emulator to get stuff to work better? And what video plug-in version do you guys recommend?

Freezing at a black screen before the rom loads is somewhat of a problem in surreal, at least for some people and in some situations... It happened to me, but I looked up the surreal emulator saves on google, what folders it is I mean and deleted them completely, both folders... and that seemed to fix things. Cant say that this is your problem for sure though, but it would be worth a shot I'd presume.

Umm.. I'm sorry... Surreal Gamesave?
Aren't Gamesaves for the ROMs?
Are you talking about the saves for the ROMs I have?

Alright, you guys. I SORT OF fixed my problem. Hah.
I deleted Surreal64 XXX, and just downloaded the first version of Surreal64, the one released in 2004.
Surprisingly, this one works a hell of a lot better than the newer one. Majora's Mask is now running flawlessly.
It might not LOOK as good graphically, but at least it's running. :3

Starfox 64 appears as unknown, but when you scan the games it appears as Starfox 64. I have to do this everytime i launch the emulator for the name starfox 64 to appear if not it stays as unknown but you choose the game this way and you can play it. What happen? What's the problem?

I followed the first post's tutorial but I couldn't get surreal to find the roms off my DVD. I pretty much followed it exactly.

So when making an iso you create a 'new folder' > 'Roms' > '007.zip' So basically 'actual roms' are inside the 'Roms' folder and roms folder is inside 'new folder' Correct?

And when making the iso you want to make it of 'Roms' the folder. Not the 'actual roms' nor the 'new folder' Correct?

If so i don't know what I'm doing wrong?

So now i'm trying all kinds of stuff:
I've uninstalled surreal, deleted the 'ms' game save, deleted the tdata\af64..\surreal10.ini

and now i'm back to where i used to be, where roms show up in surreal by hitting the 'Y' button, where it's being accessed through the e/surreal/roms folder.

But that's not what I want!!! I'm trying to save space on my hard drive so i can have a ton of roms for other emulators.

How do I play the roms off a DVD?
Please help!! written tutorial, picture tutorial, video tutorial, whatever will help!!!
thanks in advance!

I Still can't get it to work! I Have XBMC as my dashboard and trying to run the emu's from that app, I updated all my xbe files in my n64 directories. I have tried putting the folder on my F drive AND my E Drive, my kernal version is 5101 and my dash version is 5960. I edited the serreal.ini file match my rom and media directories:

Rom Path=E:\apps\Emulators\n64\Roms
Media Path=D:\Media

Exactly how it's written, exactly where it is.

I am only soft modded, i don't have a modchip.

If you need any more info PLEASE REPLY if you think u can help me!

i dont know if this helps anyone but you can try.
i have surreall on disc with a full romset and i burned it to the hdd and it works fine on any dashboard.
my paths in the surreal.ini are
Rom Path=D:\Roms\
Media Path=D:\Media\
make sure you are using the newest version of surreall versionb5.
@dickalan yes the roms folder should just be called roms
