hmm...  if you aren't capturing from your own laserdisc, I really don't have any advice for you.  Who knows what sort of state a downloaded mpeg could be in.

I can tell you that I have seen 2 different versions of the DL2 video footage floating around the net.  One is an LD capture (probably what you have) and the other is Jerico's dvd rip.  I have seen both and have verified that neither is suitable for use in daphne.  The dvd rip is not properly aligned to the LD, and the LD capture has dropped frames.

I've done this just yesterday...

Download dvd2daphne v3. In the tools directory you will find a utility called bbdmux.exe use this to extract the video stream (stream 0xe0) to your m2v file, then extract the audio stream (stream 0xc0) to a .mp3 file **IMPORTANT**!! Don't go to ogg straight away.

Then use either besweet or oggmachine to convert the mp3 to an ogg. You'll have to download a couple more components to get this step to work, but it ain't hard to find the relevent bits on google seeing as the programs tell you exactly what bits you need.

Then all you need is to create a framefile on the xbox called lair2.txt that contains the following two lines:

"
.\mpeg\lair2
-67 lair2.m2v
"

Job done, works a treat for me :)

Enjoy!

If it's the same file I've seen (with the same name) then it will still have dropped frames and therefore innaccurate seeking.

Obviously i have no idea which file you've seen! I was going to post the file name and size, but due to storage restrictions i've already deleted the mpeg that i converted it from.

The mpeg was given to me by a fellow arcade collector at a recent meet i held. Chances are it could have come from an original disc, but i wouldn't like to say  :)  I certainly know people with original DLII machines, so it could be.

How quickly would the syncing problems occur? I haven't sat down and played it too much yet, and i'm crap anyway, so haven't got too far!

If they show up straight away then this IS a good version. If they show up later then i'll probably never know, as i say i'm just not good enough to get that far into the game (unless of course there's randomness involved like on DL)

Regardless though, i was primarily just responding with how to convert it. That should be the same regardless of whether the results are any good or not...

they'd show up later.  If the mpeg is aligned to the beginning of the footage, then seeking will get progressively more and more off the further you get into the disc (ie further into the game).

Like I said, I have not yet seen an mpeg floating around the net that is suitable for use with daphne.

I noticed you said you got your mpeg from a friend.  Please remember that DL2 is still readily available for sale from Digital Leisure:
http://www.digitalleisure.com

so it doesn't fall into the typical legally-gray "abandonware" category. Digital Leisure is, surprisingly, a great supporter of daphne. This is an especially rare point of view for a developer/publisher to have today, and is a major benefit to the emulator project. Please support them, as they support us.

I just found some mpgs in Edonkey...should I just input the files in the Dvd and the Daphne to run or shall I seek for the framefiles?

If you know anything about video editing, my suggestion is to buy a dvd release and extract the video footage.  You know you're not getting corrupt or incorrectly captured mpegs that way.  Plus, you support Digital Leisure and Dragon's Lair LLC.
