Best Emulators?
« on: January 05, 2004, 07:29:00 PM »

We have a list of favorite Emu's. But the horse race is driving me crazy. There is one question is   just one. Question is when will anyone or everyone throw toghter an emu auto installer. when all emus are installed------- have rom folders under each emu for roms. I know how to find the programs, I know how to find the roms. but the updates are what drive ya crazy. There is Evox auto installer. Why not Emu auto installer.

Just the begining!

I enjoy Surreal 64 immensely.  It's nearly flawless in my brief encounters with it.  It's a N64 emu incase the thread starter doesn't know...

This would be nice for people who don't have any emulators at all, but for most people I think they would rather just copy a few updated files across than update a few hundred meg.

I know it's not technically an emulator in the strictest sense, but I think StepmaniaX should be on the list.
A lot of new people (the ones that read pinned topics, that is), might look to this kind of list to find a DDR sim.

LA!

What do you think?

In the technical sense BOR is not a emulator, however in the general use of the word it is.

Emulation is simply mimicking something else, so creating a game to mirror another game would infact be emulating it, just not the type of techinical emulation we refer to in this scene.

SO THARE.

This is a great resource. Has it occurred to anyboy to make a "current status" post for all existing emus out there?

That is, a list of the current version for each emu, links to compatibility threads (like the other pinned thread, but organized for each emu), perhaps size and MD5 of the release (to foil potential bad 'copies' in circulation), and maybe a brief description (like in this thread), ROM formats supports (bins, ZIPs, etc...), skinnability, and maybe even ratings of some sort?

There are so many, and the emu scene is arguably the best legitimate reason for modding an Xbox.

I'm thinking along the lines of our own X-S BIOS and mod chip guides, but obviously that's not possible as a post.

Cuz it'd probably run like crap making it not worth the effort.  <

What emulator can I use in progressive scan for SNES?  I have a projector, and I don't really like blowing up RCA.  It's a hassle, and it looks like crap.  <

A DC emulator that plays commercial games on PC just got released a few days ago .1 alpha.  I fired up one game and it ran great there is a pretty large playablity list of commercial games.  Granted I think they recommend 1ghz I believe it is possible that with future development a DC emulator could run on a XBox fairly well.

They only worked on the project for 3 months.  Kind of makes you wonder what all the other dc emulator developers have been doing for the last 5 years...

I hate it when people say that certain types of emulation are impossible and will never happen, granted I really doubt GC or PS2 will happen on xbox tongue.gif  But DC and I remember very clearly with N64 emulation on PC everyone said it would never happen you would NEED to have a 64 bit computer.  If anyone even mentioned an N64 emulator in an emulation channel on IRC they would get flamed to hell as fake and a waste of time.  I fired up UltraHLE on a celeron 500mhz with a voodoo2 and was able to play super mario, so much for the 64 bit comptuer idea wink.gif

Anyway I just wanted to give a heads up about DC emulation if anyone really was interested.  I know its a sucky console but there are a few good games out there for it.
